Burnout Smoke Screen
Holden Utility (VG), 1990 From August 1990, a Ute augmented the sedan/wagon and sat on the wagon's longer wheelbase. This was the first new utility from Holden since the demise of the WB in 1984. However unlike the WB, a panel van version was never available. #holden #holdenute #vgute

It started out civilised enough but wound up a a no-holds barred street fight 👊😠👢🗡️🔫 🐒🍆🎉 3-hrs and the passenger side is out. It doesn't help that I don't have the right tools, but ain't nobody got time for that! 🐩💨 And holy shit didn't that spring come out like a fricken hand grenade!!! 🤣 It looks pretty well flogged out and roo-tiddly-ooted so I will likely wind up having to buy a whole new cross member anyway 🤷 Hey Peersy, let's get someone else to do Stanley's, hey? 😇 @divadpers #hrholden #hrute #holdenute #thebomb #thebombproject #myfirstcar #restorationproject #restomod https://www.instagram.com/p/CHwusDHAaNo/?igshid=cwl7p3cl9lev
There's a productive afternoon in the shed, right there! That's the passenger side guard, original to the car (the one with 'Mercury' written inside it) and I really wanted to do it right which explains all the dry runs and practice I've been doing ☺️ @waynes_garage1981 #thebombproject #thebomb #hrute #hrholden #holdenute #myfirstcar #restorationproject #restomod #rustrepairs #tinwork #weldlikeaboss https://www.instagram.com/p/CHR8uq7gR6a/?igshid=6it1dpca9p3o
The Bomb's beating heart is officially out today, big job made easy with help from @divadpers posed here with yours truly over our prize. Yes, my tongue is hanging out, I'm old and feeble, I get it... 🤣 Next on the list for the engine is strip it down to its core components. The head will be going away for a good clean-up, new guides and a porting. Block will be off up to a local place for a pressure test, cleanup and hone (no rebore unless it really needs it, and then only the bare 30-thou minimum). I'll be reassembling it myself, but there's a bit of expense in the head and the block, plus the new @crowcams gear I'm building it all around, so it'll be on the back burner for a while. At least until the biz picks up again from the 'rona times 🤑 Of course if either the head or block is rooted, it's EV town for me, baby! 😆 Gearbox is out as well - holy shit that old clutch was sooooo fucked 😆 - I'm reconditioning that one myself so I could probably make a start on it any time. No big plans or changes for that so a simple rebuild kit and a bit of TLC may be all it costs. While it's out I may look further into sourcing and fitting that accessory OD I was crapping on about a few weeks ago, but looking at the standard 3-sp non-synchro box where it sits now, I don't think that's going to pan out engineering-wise 🤷 What a great bloody days work! Hold on to your hats, gang. I've been sitting on this idea for a while so I could find out if it's doable. That way I don't look too much like a dickhead if it's a dumb idea. But it's doable and cool soooooo... ...ACCESSORY OVERDRIVE UNIT! I'm keeping the original 3-speed manual box and 3.55:1 banjo diff, but camming up the power band to a zippier 2800-5800rpm. So I'm not revving it's guts out on long, spirited drives by keeping it in the 'groove' I got to thinking about the OD option. The only ones I knew about previous were the old Willys Jeep ones and the Fairey/Land Rover units that are big, heavy and noisy at speed coz of straight cut gears (I think). But here comes the Laycock D- and J-type overdrive units from the 60s. The D-type overdrive was fitted to Volvo 120s and the 1800s, Sunbeam Alpines and Rapiers, Triumph Spitfires, and MGBs with the 3-synchro transmissions. The J-type overdrive was introduced in the late 1960s and fitted to Volvos, Triumphs, Vauxhalls, Opels, AMCs, Chryslers and for some reason the Ford Transit vans 🤷 Soooo yeah! Found a couple of each on Gummy and eBay too. Priced around $500 used. @gearvendors in the States still make them new. Obviously not to fit an old Holden 3-speed, but the original ones weren't either. I'd have to fab it to fit regardless. Options, hey?! Too cool 😎 #HRHolden #HRute #holdenute #TheBomb #restomod #alltheusualhashtags #toopoopedtohashtag https://www.instagram.com/p/CD3Sc0GAZQu/?igshid=faif70e0l90d
I probably didn't have to, but I just flashed up a pair of blanking plates to keep shit out of the block while I'm working up front. Sure was a ton of fun, totally made me feel like @tangelo96 "doin' it right" 😎👌 #thebomb #thebombproject #HRHolden #hrute #holdenute #holdenredmotor #alltheusualhashtags https://www.instagram.com/p/CEyS4m4AYGO/?igshid=6omhiyps3f5m
