I've heard every Animal Collective album at least one time, and it usually takes me a while to go back to their earlier stuff with some convincing by relistening to some tracks from the album.

I just relistened to I See You Pan from Hollinndagain after about 8 months since my first listen of it, and it is a lot nicer than I remembered. It's really nice, very interesting sonically. The harsher sounds in the first bit and this periods signature high frequency feedback juxtaposed with the really nice softer keys, Avey and Panda's weird vocals, all stuff I've really grown attached to after getting into their early stuff a ton. I'll have to relisten to the whole album soon.

Any other Animal Collective fans who prefer the first 3 songs on Hollinndagain to most of Danse Manatee and Here Comes the Indian? Because I certainly do (even though I like DM and HCTI too). Just.... those first 3 songs on that album encapsulate the noisy, experimental side of early AnCo so wonderfully.

Also, reminder to self: if I ever make a film that calls for it, use “I See You Pan” as an ambient backing track to score a scene. It sounds like it’d fit something like that incredibly well.

Can anyone find live videos of anco or avey performing spirits live?

The oldest videos I can find are like 2001 and they're all hollinndagain, and danse
