Ok, I got lazy with the weathering paint job on this. But it was really just something to play around with.
Still, looks pretty much like a holotape!
The spools don't really spin cleanly. So if I ever do another one, I'll probably have to do a little fine tuning to make them move more freely.
Looks neat, though. And technically would actually work if you built a player mechanism for it.
I'll put it out with the other random items on the porch on Halloween night.
Just a silly little mini project. Holotape with actual tape.

July 8, Doctor Seward's Diary (Kept on Holotape)
[July 8, 2287]
There is a method in his madness, and the rudimentary idea in my mind is growing. It will be a whole idea soon, and then oh my…unconscious celebration! You will give the wall to your conscious brother. I kept away from my friend for a few days so that I might notice if there were any changes. Things remain as they were, except he has parted with some of his pets and gained a new one. He managed to get a crow and has already managed to partially tame it. His means of taming is rather simple, for the spiders are already diminished. Those who remain, however, are well fed, for he brings in the flies by tempting them with his food.
Oh, my books. My big, beautiful bound books filled with stories and knowledge and history. I love my books. I always will. But lately, I've been feeling like books are on their merry way to becoming antiques. Nobody reads from paper anymore. I saw some [Vault-Tec] University kids in the store the other day just reading the covers and nothing more. Can you believe that? Completely summarizing the contents of a published work by judging the cover? Absolutely unbelievable. But now it's all holotape this, terminal that. Thank you, RobCo, for ushering in the death of books and, to be honest, our entire civilization while we're at it. And no, for anyone snooping in, the irony that I'm recording this rant is not lost on me. I can still mourn for the death of my favorite pastime without getting left behind in the past, thank you very much.

Congratulations, Appalachia. Paladin Taggerdy told me of your victory at Huntersville. I know it was costly, but future generations will thank you. As I'm thanking you now. It makes me proud. But that's not why I'm calling.
One of the Brotherhood's standing orders is being on the look out for valuable technology. Anything that would help us in our efforts. But as I look in every direction I see chaos. The lights are out, and men have become little better than barbarians. Civilization. Civilization is something I think of every day. I know Lizzy's probably sick of the word by now.
To rebuild that. To reclaim that. Our successors are going to need the secrets of the past. And those secrets are in danger of slipping through our fingers forever. So far our Scribes have been tools to help protect our Knights and maintain our bases. That needs to change. The Brotherhood is going to be more than an armed fighting force, we're going to be guardians of civilization.
So we have to grab every schematic, every holotape, every book, and every goddamned note that holds the building blocks of the Old World before it's too late. Our Scribes will hold onto them, preserve them, perhaps even progress beyond them. And the Knights will protect them. Like a hard shell around a precious seed. One day, when the time is right, that seed will grow. And a new civilization will be born.
This… This is why we were born, don't you see it? Helping your fellow man is a good goal, a soldier's goal. But this… We will be the catalyst that changes the world. I'm sure you have questions, Paladin Taggerdy is fully briefed. I have every faith in you, Appalachia. Elder Maxson, out.
