We participated in the Super Batata Retro Gamer Festival event this weekend to showcase a demo of our first game Holy Arrow.
The event was mainly targeted to gamers, there were arcade machines on free play, some Playstations, an Atari 260, a NES, and a lot of other retro consoles. Also a huge League of Legends and Counter Strike Lan Party upstairs.
They gave us space for Indie booths which we shared with other 3 startups, one of them was an amazing card game.
This was the first time our game got in contact with the average gamer, since most of our friends are either devs or hardcore gamers.
We got a lot of feedback, most of it positive and the rest of it were things we can fix with some fine tuning.
We are aiming for an arcade feel with Holy Arrow’s gameplay, however an interesting amount of people found it too difficult, defeating enemies give too little score which makes it hard to get a high score, in fact, only one player was able to reach it. The default high score was 20000 points, this player got 42800 points.
Most players only got to stage 3, while more savvy players got to stage 6 a very skilled player got to stage 9 and the high score one got to stage 20.
One funny thing about younger players, it takes a 6 years old child 7 continues to reach stage 2. Most of the younger children who played the game didn’t grab it as a toy (mashing buttons to see things move) but they didn’t come up with a strategy to win either.
We found 2 bugs, one that makes the music to stop looping, and the other one makes the player invincible for the rest of the match.
We will be working on those bugs and soon release a press kit with a demo and the release date.
Holy Arrow will be a free digital download game for PC.
