Always On Duty | Warren Peverell
Warren was pacing in his rooms, when he heard the soft tap on the window. He waved his hand absent mindedly to let the owl in, holding his arm out for the familiar claws to land on his sleeve. "Hey, girl," he muttered, not looking up from the book he had been reading while he walked. The soft nip to his ear suggested whatever she was carrying was rather important, and he placed the book on the end table, to be picked up as soon as he had attended to it.
He untied the tiny parcel and read it quickly, groaning to himself. "Quidditch?" he muttered, "Great," He huffed, not particularly looking forward to the match, especially not when he was there to watch over a bunch of rowdy teenagers, a task hard enough in itself when they were in the castle.
He had never particularly enjoyed the games, only going to a few when he had been in school, and only attending now because it's what he was paid to do. Wesley had always been more into sports than he had, and he supposed he would be just as insufferable after this game as he had all through their schooling. He chuckled to himself as he prepared all the standard answers. 'Yes, I saw that catch,' and 'No, I didn't realize,'. He hoped he could still get away with it, and that his older brother would be too absorbed in recounting what happened than seeing if he was actually paying attention.
He sighed heavily once more, refolding the tiny parcel and sticking it carefully between the pages of his book, before he set it, closed, on its side on the shelf. He could read it later.
Just A Phone Call Away || self-para
The stretch from Hogwarts to Hogsmeade had never seemed so annoyingly long. Despite the slick ground, Simon threw his spindly limbs into a brisk run, the announcement jammed into his coat pocket. At first, he hadn't been too enthused about the little bit of post. Usually Afriti brought him hospital notes, holiday cards, the usual like that. But this time he was glad he read it right after receiving it.
The whole school was going to see a Puddlemere-Holyhead match. A real-live-flesh-and-blood pro match! Not once had he ever been to an event like this. He had been so excited, in fact, that he had nearly skipped over the entire section detailing family members' involvement. Needless to say, he was remedying that right away.
Simon's shoelaces proved a small trouble when they nearly cost him his balance, but luckily a drunk set of wizards stumbling out of the pub prevented him from toppling all the way over. They hit one another like dominoes; Simon hitting the first wizard, then he his friend, and then his friend hit the ground. He dispensed apologies as quick and best he could while the pair muddled around in their stupor, but it seemed there was little need. They barely even realized he was there, let alone that someone else had thrown them off their kilter.
Simon opened the nearest shop door and came just shy of vaulting over the front counter and onto the girl behind it, he ran to it so fervently.
"Please," He panted, the run from the school finally catching up with him. "Your phone... Can I use your phone?"
The girl raised a brow at him, taking a step away, but she pointed out an archaic-looking wooden box with something he supposed resembled a phone hanging from the decayed grain.
"Thanks."
He trudged over, wiping his palms on the thighs of his jeans before picking up the heavy iron phone and putting the receiver to his ear. The numbers were faded (the '#' key and the '0' were both missing, and he swore that 4, 5, and 7 had lichen growing on them) but he had little trouble inputting his home number. He just hoped someone was home from the hospital today. He wanted them to be able to come out so badly...

Not Again || Paxton Wolfe
A light scratching roused Paxton from her deep slumber and she groaned against Tegan's neck, pushing herself closer and snuggling into her girlfriend's body. The warmth drew her in, trapping her in the bed as she attempted to ignore the Owl at their window. It continued, though, and she moaned again, rolling onto her back as she tried to muster the courage to sit up.
"Pax," Tegan moaned, reaching out to push against Paxton. "Get the damn thing," She continued, her eyes fluttering close as she moved to drift back into her sleep she'd been rudely awaken from.
"I dun' wan' to." Paxton mumbled in reply, pushing Tegan back. A giggle rose in her throat as she glanced at the brown eyed beauty next to her, with one eye open glancing back at her. The light scratching tapped against the dusted window and Paxton groaned again.
Tossing the sheet that covered her legs, Paxton stumbled towards the sheath of light that cascaded over the room and unlocked the latch, letting in the Ministry trained Barn Owl. It's feathers were ruffled and it hooted a judgement in her direction before sticking it's leg out, giving Paxton access to the note tied to it's claw.
"Judge, much?" Paxton muttered, slipping the paper from the Owl and shooing it out the window again. Her eyes trailed over the black ink on the parchment before an exasperated sigh.
"What is it?" Tegan asked, wrapping her arms around Paxton's shoulders.
"Work -- I need to accompany students to the Hollyhead versus Puddlemere game." Leaning against her girlfriend, Paxton closed her eyes, giving a light shake of her head. "I just want to be with you..."
"Yeah, but I'm not paying you." Tegan shrugged and kissed Paxton's cheek, "That'd make you a prostitute." Jumping from the bed, Tegan crossed the room to her dresser, pulling on a pair of knickers and a cami before she came back to Paxton. "Go -- it'll be worth it."
"Come with me." Pulling her closer, Paxton kissed her girlfriend back, letting her lips linger on the soft ones that kissed her back.
"I can...I can try?" Tegan mumbled, nuzzling Pax's neck. "I'll have to call in sick, but definitely, I can try." She added, reaching out to grab Paxton's had and squeeze it.
