Orthodox celebrate Easter in Jerusalem
More than 30,000 Christians took part Saturday in Jerusalem in the traditional ceremony of the "sacred fire" on the eve of Orthodox Passover, a thousand-year-old rite symbolizing eternity. Candle in hand, nearly 10,000 pilgrims gathered fervently in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, told AFP the spokesman of the police, Micky Rosenfeld. Thousands more were standing on the forecourt outside the church and in the adjacent streets to receive the flame representing the resurrection of Christ, AFP photographers noted.
