THIS IS HER FIRST FULL DAY OFF IN WHAT     feels like forever.    Her parents have taken Mia out for the day   (  it seems like they’re enjoying themselves,   because they’ve already sent Cady three videos of Mia sleeping in her stroller.    Very exciting,   thanks Dad !  )   and though she’d very much like to just lie in bed all day,   it’s about time she get to work on the MASSIVE pile of laundry that she’s been ignoring for days.    The doorbell rings when she’s about halfway through and for a split second Cady considers ignoring it just so she can finish the pile,   but before she knows it,   she’s standing in the hallway,   opening to door to reveal a familiar face.    Lips parted in surprise,   eyes wide with confusion ;   she’s the picture perfect definition of SHOCK.

❝   Aaron !    Oh my god,   what are you doing here ?   ❞     Despite the shock and sudden burst of anxiety due to the fact that he’s HERE,   at her house,   where her parents might come strolling by with Mia at any time,   there’s a smile on her face.   He’s her best friend,   of course she’s happy to see him.    And also terrified,   but mostly happy.    ❝   You wanna come in ?   ❞    The question escapes her lips before she’s able to stop it   &   Aaron is already stepping into the hallway to take off his shoes,   so there’s no turning back now.    Cady turns at her heel and practically bolts into the living room,   picking up toys and teddy bears as she moves.

❝   So you’re back in town for the weekend ?    That’s GROOL !                Ugh,   I meant to say great but I started to say cool.   ❞     The words tumble out with an awkward laugh as she stumbles through the living room,   hiding baby toys and laundry beneath the couch cushions before Aaron has a chance to see them.    ❝   Sorry about the mess ...    we’re,   uh,   redecorating.   ❞     She’s an AWFUL liar,   which is why she’s missed all of his calls since he moved on purpose and then answered with a carefully planned text instead.

        it wasn’t unusual for julia to wake in the middle of the night to find that donny was not in the same spot he was before. when tired eyes opened to meet the empty sheets of the bed, her heart ached. not because he was gone, but for the reason he was gone. all the nights she would lay there beside him as he tosses and turned, often screaming into the night  --  --  --  too plagued by the things he saw while he was away. peace of mind just wasn’t a concept that he knew. julia only wished she could take even the smallest part of that away from him, to give him the peace of mind that he so deserved.

       tying her robe around her tightly, julia slipped out of the bedroom and out into the main part of the room. life seemed to be getting better despite losing the contest. after learning of the true intentions the producers had for their song  --  -- --  they were all content with losing. especially after seeing just how the other band had ended up in the end film. they had more songs to perform, more places to go. the donny nova band was far from over.

       as the moonlight spilled over the glaze black piano, julia stood in the doorway and just listened for a moment. her eyes fell closed as she took in each note that he played. taking a couple of timid strides towards him, she easily draped a hand over his shoulder, careful not to frighten him by her presence. once she was sure he knew it was her, her arms slid around his neck and her cheek nestled into his hair. ❝ is that something new ?? it sounds beautiful. ❞

MOST NIGHTS, CHARLIE FEELS CONFIDENT HE MADE     the right choice when he quit working for Rick.    Other nights,   like tonight,   he feels bad for himself and wonders what old friends and former colleagues might think of him.    ( Poor Charlie,   he’s twenty nine and he’s still a TEMP.   What a joke ! )    But it’s been a long day,   a LONG WEEK   &   he knows that in the morning he’ll feel rejuvenated and happy he made the choice he did.    He’s a changed man,   and not thanks to Rick.

On nights like this,   Charlie would usually find himself sitting on the couch,   ordering take - out and binging some comedy show for the umpteenth time.    Tonight is a little DIFFERENT.    A special craving forces him out of the COMFORT of his apartment   &   he finds himself hopping out of an uber at midnight,   waltzing into a pizzeria he’s only sat foot in once before.    Last time he was here,   he was slightly intoxicated and in the presence of someone he now dearly misses.

Charlie’s standing in line,   absentmindedly scrolling through his Instagram feed,   when the bell above the door rings out again.    He turns to gaze at the new customer over his shoulder   &   the sight stops him dead in his tracks.      ❝                Harper !   ❞
