"dave strider is finally a hero" shut your fucking mouth dave strider was always a hero he didn't have to die to become a hero

"heroic death" is not the only signifier of heroism. it's just an adjective used to describe the manner of death and it can be highly variable, i.e. jade and jane count as "just deaths" even though they're not villains and were operating under mind control, not free will.

dave acted heroically on numerous occasions in the comic, his issue was the fact that he didn't consider himself as such due to poor self-esteem. it had nothing to do with his actions or even anybody else's view of him, it was a purely internal conflict, and besides he did not just get up like "ok im gonna die SUPER HEROICALLY i am now a hero bc REASONS," the nature of the "heroic death" boils down to his actions at the exact second he died, which was defending jade's body and any death incurred while directly defending/protecting someone else is classed as heroic.
