Possibility for Visual Analysis
I love the video for "Pound the Alarm" because Nicki goes to Trinidad and Tobago, where she was born, to shoot the video. It features her dancing in the streets wearing a traditional performance costume from the area. Even though I love all the wonderful colors, I do not think the visuals and lyrics provide as much of a basis for commentary as my other possibilities.
Possibility for Visual Analysis
Another possibility for my visual Analysis is the music video for "Freedom". The song itself focuses mainly on her career and how she has worked hard to get where she is.The video caused some controversy because there are several visual allusions to the Bible. I think this would be a good possibility for my visual analysis because of the controversial images that are so different from her other videos and the lyrics that focus on all of the hard work she has put into her career.
Possibility for Visual Analysis
This music video for "Lookin Ass" is a good candidate for the subject of my visual analysis because Nicki has so much power and attitude in every aspect of the video it's insane. She spends a majority of the video rapping about not spending any of her time or attention on men that do not measure up. She does this while flaunting her curves and carrying huge guns that lets the viewer know that she is not to be played with. At the end, after giving the male viewer a great view of her body and endlessly teasing him, she shoots him.
Possibility for Visual Analysis
How could I have Nicki Minaj as my diva and not at least consider using the video for "Anaconda" as the subject of my visual analysis? I think this is a great representation of my diva because it showcases her confidence and her push to empower women. The lyrics are full of great lines to comment on. This video has so many amazing images that provide a basis for commentary- who could forget the scene where Nicki gives Drake a lap dance then slaps his hand away or the plot twist moment where she cuts the banana with a look of disinterest.
