Mount Fuji: 11th of May 2026
geared up my "oh what the hell let's go for the moon" hopes up and reached out to an icelandic tour group that offers self-driving tours about planning our honeymoon next year. we're actually getting married in march but planning to use whatever we're gifted at the wedding + whatever we can save between then and autumn to plan a real trip, and the dream (that both of us have always had) is iceland. and what they offer is an itinerary and map, with accomodations and rental car booked, and unlimited miles on the car so we can explore anything we want in-between destinations! it's cheaper than other tour companies because there's no tour bus or guide, and the only "excursions" that are booked are ones we specifically choose ahead of time to be added to the price. it's perfect! we both love road trips and don't love the idea of being constrained by a tour group on our honeymoon, so a 9-day self-driving trip that takes us in a ring around the whole island is legitimately the perfect honeymoon for us.
if we can afford it. i think we'll be able to pull it off with what people give us at/for the wedding - we expect 160-175 people there (100 groups/families) and scott has a wealthy and generous uncle so even if only half of them throw us $50, that's a $2500 head start, and i can save up $3-4k between march and september, and so can he, so we should be able to easily budget $8-9k, and that tour starts at only $2k/person and flights are like $800/person. that's $5600 for both of us, and then, yes, added expenses of food and gas, which i have no idea where to start with so i'm going to jump hopefully way over and say $1500. that's $7100! we spent only around $2k less than that on our trip to washington last year, and that was only six days. we can do this! i believe that we can do this!
i am scared to believe that we can do this!

after posting that picture of my wife + i’s rings, every once in a while, someone asks about them.
i don’t have hers to take a picture of them right now, but i took this one of mine back on our honeymoon trip. it’s a blue sapphire ring with an open wedding band…some diamond details. i realize this is impractical, but i like the way it just kind of fits snug in there. one big hug to the other; looks like a cat if you flip it around. plus, later for milestones, a ring jacket can be added to the top for an amazing three-piece set. obsessed. i, technically, got to pick them both out. this wasn’t my first engagement ring from my wife…the original one she proposed with was an ethiopian fire opal, but it was porous and hard to take care of - long story. either way, i’m not a big diamond girl, so this was perfect.
blue is my favorite color – i call my wife “blu.” we started dating in september 2019. sometime after we picked this one out, we discovered that sapphire was the birth stone of september.. purely coincidental, but we loved it even more because of it💙
