Hey guys! I wrote a short Hooper/Banky piece if anybody is interested. It centers around an argument between the two of them about identity, hypocrisy, and sexuality that occurs a few weeks after the events of Chasing Amy. CW for crude and homophobic language, but I'm sure you expected as much. (LINK)
Title: Pushing Limits
Excerpt: “You think the world is so goddamn black and white, but newsflash, people don't work that way. I don't get to skip around the city with a pretty man in a full-face of drag just because I'm gay. And you don't get a six-pack and a pornstar free of charge for being straight.”
“Well I might not be straight.” Banky says.
Hooper scoffs. “Tell me something I don't know.”
Let me know what you guys think :) Id love to explore these two some more if people are interested
So, I said I was gonna talk about my two unfinished fics, My Plain Wrapper Baby and Blue Hour. You don’t have to read them, I just wanted to talk about them. And, for those who have read them, this might be a little interesting.
So, initially, these were conceived as two separate stories, but within the same AU. An AU, in which Silent Bob met Amy, while studying in New York. He dropped out of college, suffered an assault, and a mental health and sexuality crisis after they split, and eventually became a sex worker. He lives in a near derelict house with three other young men, all of whom are also sex workers. He did not return home to Jersey, not knowing how to face his mother. As far as she is concerned, he has a regular, minimum wage job there, but he does not write as often as he used to. She and several of Bob’s friends have been left cold and unsettled by Bob’s lack of correspondence.
It was my intention, in both stories, to connect Bob back with Jay. And, in both, the link is Banky (though, in MPWB, I never got far enough to introduce him into the story). I have since decided that the two stories are connected.
In MPWB, Silent Bob and his housemates do a temporary gig at a strip club, performing in the nudie booth. The part I never got around to writing, was that one particular customer asks Bob to step up to the two way mirror and remove his eye mask, which he does for extra money. After uncovering his face, he breaths on the mirror and draws a heart, to sweeten the customer, further. A flash can be seen through the dark glass. The customer has clearly taken a picture of him. For a while, the whole group is unsettled, thinking it could have been a cop, as they were all there under dodgy contracts. But, weeks elapse, and nothing occurs.
The photographer was actually Banky. In this AU, Banky and Holden are also in New York, studying art. They frequently take cameras around with them, to take their own reference photos. On this night, Banky took his into the club. He took a picture of Bob, not only because he knew he could get away with taking a picture in the privacy of the booth, but because he found he particularly liked Bob.
This was why Banky was pretty certain that Bob was a sex worker in Blue Hour. He had already seen Bob at work, unbeknownst to him. Before I had even linked the stories up, I had written a moment in Blue Hour, where Banky looks Bob over while he’s driving him to the apartment. He calls Bob pretty, but immediately shuts off to him, after that. Bob thinks Banky is disgusted by him. Actually, he’s quite attracted. Not least due to a superficial resemblance to someone else we know (Holden).
Banky wanted an excuse to talk to Bob. He also wanted an excuse to project his repressed desires onto someone else, by buying Bob to scare, or surprise Jay on his birthday. He does not know the two know each other, having connected with Jay, after Bob’s departure. (Jay, for the record, is studying to be a vet in this AU).
Originally, for MPWB, I was going to make it so Banky did at least know what Bob looked like, and wanted to pass the photo to Jay and Holden, knowing that Bob was essentially missing. But, he didn’t want to admit he had been into a gay club, so he begged Hooper to claim he took the picture, instead. But, I think this still works. No one but Banky knows about the photo, nor how he found Bob in the first place. Perhaps, Holden would be the one to discover it, later.
Little Floyd comic, he gets bored working at Brod'ys so he reads the comics
Some of the stuff is hard to read so I'll write it out under this
