Cambridge Brewing Co. & Craft Beer Cellar - CBC2
As I have mentioned many times on this blog, the Craft Beer Cellar is one kick-ass place to find both the well-known favorites and the hidden gems of the craft beer world. Suzanne and Kate, the all-powerful beer geeks behind the Craft Beer Cellar, have a long history in the Boston beer scene. Prior to opening their first store in Belmont, MA, they ran the show at Cambridge Common, an amazing spot right on the outskirts of Harvard's campus.
Meanwhile, over in Kendall Square, not far from MIT, the Cambridge Brewing Co. has been creating all sorts of awesome beers out of their brewpub since 1989.
One day while surfing around Twitter, I caught a mysterious post from the ladies at the Craft Beer Cellar that mentioned that they were over with the crew from Cambridge Brewing working on a secret collaboration. No further information was needed at this point, this beer had to be mine as soon as it was released.
CBC2 is labeled as a "Hoppy-Hefe", and in my humble opinion, it exists as a great balance of two distinct styles. I definitely got the hops on the front end, while the hefeweizen components kicked in on the back end. It had some sweet and fruity notes on the finish, certainly a characteristic I love about hefeweizens. All in all, this is a great collaboration that easily exceeded my already high expectations. Cheers!
If you ever find yourself in the Boston area, a visit to both the Craft Beer Cellar and Cambridge Brewing Co. is the best decision you will ever make!
