— by Aaron Pereira: While staying home and adhering to the Conditional Movement Control Order, one thing most of us Malaysians would be missing out on would be the various traditional Raya delicacies that we have been craving and waiting to feast on.

On the very beach where they got engaged, Alex and Jenny said, “I do!” They opted for a Great Officiants Beach wedding, so everything was set up and ready for them when they got there –and it looked beautiful! With the arch, flowers, and white chairs—it was the picture of perfection! Of course, what really made it perfect was the two of them. Walked down the aisle, by her son, Jenny looked gorgeous. Alex had kept his gaze away, so he wouldn’t see her as she walked down the long Redondo Beach ramp and made her way to the aisle. When he turned around there were tears as he locked eyes with his bride.
Both Alex and Jenny are salsa dancers, to their ceremony was focused on the intricacies of dance as a metaphor for marriage. In this bilingual wedding they chose to say their vows and exchange rings in Spanish, while I went back and forth between the two languages. Their journey together has been very much like a dance, as they have gently maneuvered their lives, all the while letting love lead. Now as they begin their lives as a married couple, they vow to continue to dance, even when it’s hard, when they’ve forgotten the steps, or step on one another’s toes…still they dance and as long as they let love lead, their dance will be beautiful!
It was a joy to get to know this couple and see how they support one another, make sacrifices for the other, compromise, and invest in their love. Many blessings Jennifer and Alex! May your marriage be as beautiful as your wedding day!
Congratulations to Kaitlyn Marmaduke & Shawn Davidson on their Saturday, August 5, 2017 wedding at the beautiful Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens in San Clemente, CA. It was a beautiful day, not to mention an exceptional setting overlooking the pacific ocean from the balcony cliff patio. Although you were able to feel the temperature the ocean breeze was present as well. It was an eloquent ceremony that was perfect from start to finish in every aspect. They added the Rose presentation to their moms, which is always a toughing part of the ceremony. Afterwhich, guests enjoyed cocktails on the beautifully appointed lawn followed by dinner in a “long awaited air conditioned” banquet hall. My best to the NOW Mr. & Mrs.!
Congratulations to Diana Catibog & Vinson Yague on their Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, CA. It was a beautiful evening for a wedding with approximately 200 guests on the lawn at the edge of the water overlooking the Long Beach Seaport Village. It was an elegant ceremony which included a Rose Bouquet presentation to Diana and Vinson’s moms as well as an exchange of heartfelt written personal vows. The reception banquet room was eloquently appointed and the setting for a perfect time for all in attendance with beautiful ocean views following a relaxing outdoor cocktail hour on the patio on the water. My very best to the newly married couple.

The Hotel Maya is such a great venue. Beautiful scenery, great views, and of course, this happy couple. They had an intimate ceremony surrounded by their family and friends. They had some wonderful decorations, and a nice sign in table with some candles and their picture. We had a non-denominational ceremony with a few words from them at the end. It is always a nice touch when the couple adds a few words in. It does not have the formality or the stress of writing out your own vows, but it still customizes the ceremony.
And they lived happily ever after.

Cindy and Chris chose to have their wedding at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach. This is a beautiful venue with views of the harbor, the downtown skyline and the bow & side profile of the RMS Queen Mary. They chose a wonderful Latin band, which provided beautiful music during the ceremony and a wonderful salsa feel to the cocktail hour after the ceremony.
A beautiful start to a happy life together, in the company of friends, soft ocean breezes and a relaxed yet elegant setting.

A short weekend in Long Beach
A short weekend in Long Beach
A beach, a city, and a harbor for ships and visitors
Living 17 years in LA, I visited Long Beachabout half a dozen times. It served as a halfway meeting point for me and friends who lived in Orange County. We had brunch and dinner there on occasion, and I visited the aquarium with my son and went whale watching once, but I never really considered Long Beach a destination. That was before I had…
