Accomodation and getting around Singapore
We stayed at the Hotel Boss which is a 3 star hotel with full amenities such as an enormous pool with a great view, a gym overlooking the pool, free wifi and a buffet breakfast. The hotel caters mainly to business travellers but some families also stayed here. Our room was very basic and tiny, but with the added balcony and modern features it made it more bearable. There were two large double beds which the 5 of us slept in so if sharing close quarters isn't your thing you might find this not suitable for you. The buffet breakfast we also got pretty sick of as it's the same food everyday and it didn't look very appetising. I mainly stuck to cereal and toast for the majority of the stay. The proximity to everything was very accessible, Bugis is about a 10 minute walk which has ample shopping and food options, i'd highly recommend Astons and Eighteen Chefs as far as variety of food, service and price goes. We found them both very accomodating for my son's allergies and each time we went there, the food was really enjoyable. The best way to get around is to get a Singapore tourist pass which is $20 for 3 days, plus a $10 card fee which is refunded once you're finished using it. This allows you to access all public transport on the MRT, buses and light rail. If you have a child under 6 you can get a free travel card, you need to bring their passport to get this card though. The tourist pass you can extend after the 3 days for an additional 3 days until the end of your trip, we just kept extending ours for the 14 days as it was the easiest way to get around as we were travelling as a group of 7, taxis would have been too expensive. The MRT is awesome, trains come very quickly even non peak times they come every 4 mins generally which is great. We found pretty much every MRT station had a shopping mall right near it so there were literally dozens of malls you could go and check out while you're there. The buses were great too and we could get a bus and check out places like Marina Bay sands and the Singapore flyer. The buses are also very efficient and excellent to use with the tourist pass.
