Hournite Headcanons

Hand holding is a huge part of their relationship culture. Beth values that feeling of closeness that reassures her that she's not lonely anymore and Rick values the option of having a hand he can reach out to when he's upset, instead of feeling like he needs to destroy something.

Food is often a bonding experience. They cook together, or for each other. They cultivate an experience

I’ve been thinking about this nursery since June 2021, and I haven’t gathered photos for aesthetics, because even though I see a lot of stuff that I think to myself, “This would be perfect,” I try to only use photos from sites that allow you to use photos free, legally. It’s a pain, because it does cut down on options, but I hate the thought of taking folks photos against their wishes, even if its just for stupid aesthetics that 4 people might like. Lol

Nursery Notes:

Woodworking Rick gets into his carpentry thing for nursery stuff. Whenever he and Beth are looking for cribs, Beth is super focused on getting a quality product (and she’s not worried about price, because even if she can’t afford something, her parents would assist), but Rick is more reserved about that type of thing. The stuff that falls into his preferred budget is not good enough and the stuff that is good enough he thinks is too expensive and insists that he could make something as good himself for way less, then that becomes his thing. (Later, he’s gonna let his kiddos help him build them a treehouse, too).

Someone is in bed, hurt or have been resting after a hard time and the other is waiting bedside and whenever they awaken, they come to the bed and they were so worried or they're so emotional that they're awake that there's just no words. Just something gentle and soft to remind them, "I'm here and I was here waiting for you."

Or this one:

Innocent, cute fun day with her seated on the car before or after some event that they've got which just reminds them all over how important they are to each other and a car top lean in forehead touch for that tender little razzle dazzle.

beth is a swiftie. like, massive swiftie. but she hides it because if someone asks her if she likes shake it off one more time she might scream since her favorite is all too well even though it's a hella sad song

anyway one day rick finds out and when they're alone at her place one night because her parents are out again, he opens the refrigerator and holds out a hand for beth to dance with him and then they're dancing!!

beth gets the reference about ten minutes later after rick finally whispers "dancing in the kitchen in the refrigerator light" to her and she's so happy she starts bouncing and kisses him right there

rick is totally one who speaks with his actions first, but beth is such a words person, that I can see he needs to tell her what he's done and that's what makes it click - this is so cute. hournite slowdancing. imagine it.

Since I headcanon that Beth brings Rick lunch (since her parents have been distancing from her and Rick be at school with a wish sandwich in a paper sack), I want a little fic where he eats something someehere else that he's had from Beth before, but he's mad because it don't taste like hers.

Like seriously, imagine him just glaring at somebody like, "I can't believe they had the audacity to call this potato salad!"

More Hournite Headcanons

-Rick develops feelings for Beth rather quickly once they become close/best friends. He chalks it up to Beth being his first and only close female friend (as he isn’t as close with Courtney and Yolanda yet since he spent most of his time with Beth) and figures those feelings will go away on their own.

-The feelings do not go away.

-Rick becomes a flustering mess when Beth is around, and especially when they are in very close proximity.

-Beth is oblivious to any changes in Rick’s behavior, but Courtney and Yolanda are not.

-They tease Rick mercilessly and are so genuinely surprised that Beth can’t see how far gone Rick is for her.

-For one of their classes, they get an assignment and their teacher assigns them partners and Beth is partnered with another guy and Rick grumbles about it to Courtney and Yolanda later.

- Yolanda: “It’s just an assignment, there’s literally no need to be so worked up about it.” -Rick: “Beth is skipping lunch to be with him”

-Yolanda: “So they can finish their assignment early!!”

-Rick is in a bad mood for the rest of the day.

-When Valentine’s Day gets closer, Rick contemplates getting Beth something- flowers, chocolates, a card, etc. Courtney and Yolanda convince him to get her something simple like a flower from the small store the school set up for students to buy Valentine’s Day things. He gets her a single pink rose and his heart melts when Beth smiles brightly at the gift.

- Beth: “Thank you, Rick! You’re such a sweet friend!”

-Rick is convinced that Beth is friendzoning him and gets sad, but Beth’s ever present smile keeps him from being fully sad. He’d rather be her friend than not have her in his life after all.

-Courtney and Yolanda facepalm when Rick reiterates all of this to them later.

- Courtney: “How is Beth gonna know how you feel if you don’t actually tell her? What else is she supposed to call you other than a friend?”

-Courtney and Yolanda convince Rick to tell Beth the truth about his feelings but he doesn’t actually confess them to Beth for a year or two, before a major battle. But Rick deals with Courtney and Yolanda pestering him about his feelings for the entirety of that time period.

-Secretly, Rick is glad to have friends like Courtney and Yolanda and he’s glad that they approve and support him liking Beth. It makes him feel like he may actually be good enough for Beth.
