not to be weird but like what happened to pop...
Honestly I think the current economic and political climate has a lot to do with it. The world is so full of unrest right now, I think people are more concerned with knowing what their rights are and trying to stay afloat than with trends and pop culture. Also it’s hard to perpetuate trends when people literally can’t afford to buy into them; many people who could afford concert tickets and merchandise in 2008-2014 can no longer do so without putting a necessity in jeopardy (like rent or food)
i think this is true about the political climate. however pop culture was always easily accessable and free. The platforms: Youtube, radio, tv, Vine, Twitter. I don’t think people were only experiencing pop culture through concerts or merch. Example: I remember watching Tik Tok on Youtube and it was a hit on the radio. Ke$ha was a pop culture icon because we were able to experience her image through Youtube and blogs. Her party image, the glitter and the dollar sign.
but Money does have a lot to do with it though. People are not buying music or physical albums anymore. I wonder if with the switch to Spotify and Apple Music if making music simply isnt feasible.
