De Theefabriek
tea museum in Houwerzijl (Groningen province, Netherlands)
remember that time i cycled one and a half hours to get to the tea museum and two hours back? well, i persuaded a friend with a car to go there with me, so i got to go there again with much less suffering!
this time i asked how on earth a tea museum ended up in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere of the province of Groningen, far away from even the city of Groningen and its student population. this is the story as i understood it:
the museum is located in what used to be a church. when the Church didn’t need the building anymore, the municipality hosted some sort of contest on the radio for ideas as to what to do with the building. the winning idea was a tea museum. so whoever it was that decided they wanted a tea museum set it up there because it was an easy building to acquire.
