Dom met Mal in Paris. The two of them were introduced by her father, Miles (a long time friend and mentor) . He introduced Dom into the world of dream-sharing.
It was Miles who introduced Dom to Arthur when the latter was a student, and then Dom introduced Arthur to Mal. It was just an fun at first. But they were good at it. Mal, being the most experienced at dream-sharing, initiated the idea first: that they turn this into an actual job. It started out legal.
It was Dom and Mal or Dom and Arthur or Arthur and Mal. They worked together almost seamlessly, especially when one of them could not join.
The only thing that changed after Mal's death, was that Arthur became the only person Dom would work with. And that was when it became illegal.
Miles didn't approve of the way they were using the talents he had taught them, but there was no turning back once Dom became involved with Cobol.
