Why Should You Use Whole Beans?
Whole Bean Coffee Tastes More Fresh Than Ground Coffee
Why grind whole beans when you could get the same coffee from different sources? You can keep your coffee fresher for longer periods of time, which is why you should choose whole bean coffee.
If stored properly, the beans can be kept fresher for longer than one year. You might still have 2 to 3 months until all the wonderful flavors are gone once the beans are ground.
After grinding beans, coffee beans can become stale.
Did you realize that the majority the bean's aromatics disappear after about 15 minutes of grinding. This is due to carbon dioxide and oxidation.
Many aromatic compounds will become vaporized once they are in direct contact with oxygen. When the coffee beans are roasted, carbon dioxide remains in them and is released when the coffee is brewed. These are the causes why the beans' aromas fade in a short amount of time. The beans should be ground immediately prior to the brewing process for a better tasting cup.
How Do You Make Whole Bean Coffee?
Materials and Ingredients
Boiling water
A measuring cup
A small mason pot (recommended size is about 1 pint).
A small pan
A strainer
A spoon, and a mug
Your choice of whole bean coffee
Instructions
Step 1, Measure the coffee beans
For a single cup of joe, you will need approximately 1/2 to 3/4 cup coffee beans. It is highly recommended that you use a measuring mug to ensure accuracy. Or, an electronic scale can be used. This will work just fine. Once you're done measuring, you can take the coffee beans to your mason jar.
Be aware that the coffee beans might not settle completely in your measuring cup. Some may prefer to have more coffee in the morning. There will be a variety of coffee beans.
Second Step: Fill the Jar with boiling Water
You will need to heat water in a large saucepan until it boils. Once the water has boiled, turn off the heat and immediately transfer it to the jar. The jar should only be 3/4 full.
Important reminder: Don't use your measuring cups for this step. Otherwise, you could damage them.
3: Immerse jar in pot of simmering water
The next step is to place the jar in your saucepan after you have finished step 3. Place your mason jar in the saucepan. This water must be boiling throughout this time.
4. Cook for an additional hour at a low temp
After immersing the mixture in water, you'll need to wait until it boils. This does not mean you should just sit and wait until the mixture boils. You can also prepare food while you wait.
Once the mixture has come to a boil, let it simmer for 1 hour. Continue stirring the coffee beans in a jar with a spoon. As the coffee is cooking, the water might appear similar to coffee.
5: Strain the coffee using a strainer
After simmering the coffee for approximately one hour, get out your filter. Next, place the filter directly onto the coffee cup.
The next thing you should do is to take out the jar from its pot. Hot pads, an oven mitt and/or something else are good options to prevent yourself from burning yourself by the heat.
After this, strain the liquid. After the coffee settles in the mug, the filter will catch it.
Step 6: Enjoy!
After you have finished straining, take everything out except for your mug. You can now make your coffee just the way you want it. This is when you can add cream/sugar to your coffee. Enjoy your morning cup once it's cool enough to handle.
