I heard hogwarts is in Scotland. Is that true? It would be confusing because my understanding is that kings cross is in England. Do students take a train from England to Scotland...?

it is my understanding that yes, hogwarts is in scotland. some of the nearby towns named in the text are in scotland so it would make sense. and yes, in both real life and the hp universe kings cross station is in england. london if you want to get specific. according to google dufftown, scotland (one of the named nearby cities) is about a 13 hour train ride from england, and i imagine that a magical train ride would take less time. it probably wouldn’t take any less than 9 hours though, or else it wouldn’t be dark when hagrid takes the first years across the lake.
