Naruto is rarely in the hospital for more than twenty-four hours, and the staff knows to call Iruka first if it’s anything serious. He has spent the last six years establishing himself as the first point of contact. Today, one of his co-workers interrupts his class in the middle of lecture, approaches the podium while he explains how to add fractions and whispers in his ear.

“Uzumaki Naruto-san is in the hospital. You may want to go see him.”

Iruka comes to a stopping point in his lecture and is at the hospital within ten minutes. The nurse at the front desk knows who he is looking for immediately and guides him down the hall. Konoha hospital rooms are all laid out similarly: a bed by the window, a rolling over-the-bed table, and a single visitor’s chair. Today, the chair is by the door. 

Iruka lifts it with ease and sets it down by the bed. From the looks of it, he won’t be going anywhere for a little while.

     Kakashi doesn’t wait for the words his student just screamed at him to sink in. The three heart-shattering words were screeched out with gnashing teeth and balled up fists. Of course, anybody would be a better teacher to him than I would, is what Kakashi believes.

     A frenzy of emotions. First anger. Then rejection. Then sadness. None portrayed through his cool exterior. Finally, he just takes out his favorite little book, flipping open to a random page with one hand. His good eye trails over to his pupil.

                                    “Alright, I suppose you’re better off without me then.”

              It’s not as if he’s about to fight for this kid’s love when he doesn’t deserve it in the first place.

Aw, thank you! And yes, I have drawn a rough sketch of a sakura redesign, but I’m going to be very busy in the next few days so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to post it.
