Been picking out certain parts of Jesus' life to use later on in Hail, True Body when all that backstory gets brought up. I'm actually really excited to write from his POV!
Possibly one of my favourite things about HTB Jesus is that whenever his true voice pops up saying shit, Judas is just like 'damn, must be the voice of God again'. Like bro, no. That's the mimic trying to eat you 😭
How did htb jesus find out hes a mimic?? also how did him with ye olde biblical mindset process this? did he genuinely think he was the son of god???
In order to keep him safe as long as she could, Mary had avoided telling Jesus that he was the son of God until he was about 16 and could comprehend how important it was to keep a secret. After that, Judas was the first person he told and the only one to know outside of Mary and Joseph. There had always been 'weird behaviours' and things when it came to Jesus and Judas helped cover for him whenever anything too odd happened a little too blatantly.
Finding out he was really a mimic all along didn't happen until much later, during the 40 days and nights in the desert incident. Jesus was devastated and didn't take the news well, which led to him putting together the plan with Judas to get himself killed so he wouldn't hurt people and destroy the world.
Jesus: "I think we're going to have to kill [me], Judas." Judas: "Damn."
Jesus, staring at his reflection: ...I think we're gonna have to crucify this guy, Judas.
Judas: Damn.
I grew up with the depiction of Jesus being brunette and long-haired, but it was sorta inconsistent, because sometimes he was white, sometimes he was racially accurate to the ethnicity he was born in
Guess my church gave JC the Michael Jackson treatment /j
My C of E church depicted him as being Palestinian, but the other more 'modern' church I went to had the whitest pictures of him I'd ever seen and they'd insist he was white 💀
Idk if it was just me, but according to all the New Testament kids stuff that I watched out of curiosity, Jesus hardly had any friends before God told him to become Michael Jackson and moonwalk on rivers
Yeah, Jesus' childhood isn't really delved into in the Bible irl beyond the fact he was trained in carpentry by Joseph. For the sake of HTB, I've interpreted it as Jesus struggling to make human connections because of his (then unknown) status as a mimic - he doesn't always experience things in a way that is human. Judas sees that and feels sympathy for him, offering him friendship, and, in the end, it's down to Judas that Jesus doesn't lose it entirely when he finds out what he really is. Judas keeps him tethered to that humanity when nothing else can. Though the Bible doesn't go on to tell it that way, it's Judas who saves the world because without him, Jesus wouldn't have managed to process the truth and would very likely have lost control and done everything Lucy had wanted.
thinking about Jesus and Judas in Hail, True Body again
thinking about Jesus and Judas and how Judas is so so in love with a guy who could kill him without hesitation if he really wanted to
