9. How did you get into writing fanfiction?

hjgkdfsdhfjdskgjs [nicki minaj meme] so there's this mobile dressup game...

the abbreviated version is that i got really into a mobile dressup game while recovering from a greivous hand injury obtained in a bad kitchen accident with a mandoline slicer (ALWAYS WEAR CUT PROOF GLOVES! THE GUARD CAN SLIP!!!) and wanted So Bad to read fanfic of this plucky journalist and mysterious softspoken mafioso (liz colvin + vittorio puzo of dress up time princess gotham memoirs fame) (there are still under 150 fics for the ship last i checked) but all the fanfics that existed at the time (like 20 total) were SO grimdark (valid choice but not my vibe). so when i could type again i started typing fanfic of them... not intending to ever post it... then i was like well maybe i can post One small thing... and here we are 4 years later :-) obviously not still writing for that ship but i retain some affection for theym ngl

10. Is there a character or ship you'd love to write for, but haven't yet?

MANY!!! beyondlaw is at the top of my list at least for a ficlet. i think more L ships in general would be fun, but i'm always shy about writing him bc i don't feel i understand him very well as a character. halle x gevanni femslash also.

Can you tell me what does HTR13 say about Near in regards to his motives and of L?

In one of the later interviews, Ohba and Obata talk a bit about Near’s ‘dark side’ and how that is expressed through his finger puppets (that’s also where the famous statement that Near doesn’t like L so he made his puppet ugly comes from, although to be fair that is mostly expressed by Obata, Ohba seems a bit surprised by that). They don’t talk a lot about his motives i think, but they do mention that Near’s even more against Kira than L was and that he’s a bit of a cheater...

Basically, I get the feeling that they might not have known what to do with Near so the Near we get and the Near they’re talking about are quite different... also, Obata seems not to like Near that much, he says he’s “his least favourite character, but fun to draw” lol

When L had that cute lil smiley moment when he’s first meeting the task force and is all “The good guys always win” what do u think that was about? Do u think he really believes that or was it him trying to motivate the guys or L just being weird as usual? Or maybe just the writers wanted to make him have a cute little moment? It never seemed congruent with his character to me? The strawberry Mogi scene too tbh. Idk maybe his personality/humor is more silly than I initially headcanoned.

That scene is a bit hard to interpret to me as well! I remember it being commented upon in the HTR13 book too:

If I had to try to pin it down, I think that maybe L is just being slightly cheeky there? He might not 100% sincerely label himself something like "the good guy," as he straight-up says at times that he doesn't think he's that morally superior of a person, and that he's mainly just a detective for the fun of solving the cases - but he's also pretty cocky and confident that they'll be able to win, so he's capping off his speech with a saying that he thinks will jazz them up a little bit. Something along those lines.

Do you maybe know why everyone portrays Matt as a great hacker? I’m pretty sure he never hacks anything in canon? Only Light is shown hacking the police/FBI

Hmm, yeah I think in canon Matt is mostly shown doing surveillance type work for Mello. Spying on Misa and whatnot. He's also shown playing a GameBoy or something. I think he probably kinda just gives people those vibes, of like the geeky tech dude who will help you break into an institution, or who picked it up as a job or a hobby on his own.

In the behind the scenes book Ohba said his personality was that of an introverted cocky person who doesn't like going outside and who was the third smartest person at Wammy's. So that kinda sounds like the typical hacker stereotype from movies and so on as well:

Omg, I swear I thought I had seen a photo of htr13 where it seemed to be said or implied that O&O didn't make Near and Mello L's children at least partly because they didn't think he would... have a relationship, or just have children? I'm not sure But I have a memory of it that I guess is fake? Do you or any of your flowers have a photo of wherever O&O say this? I wanna know what it actually says so bad
