I think that training with Astrid and maybe flying with Toothless would actually make it somewhat better over time but also post first movie, maybe even during rtte, something happens and he rapidly overworks himself and just steps aside to puke in peace just to come back like "yeah, that happens sometimes :)" while the gang is just like ??? are you ok???

Getting mauled by Whispering Death gotta be one of the worst ways to go. Like sure, there's A LOT terrifying ways various dragons can kill you but being basically minced in seconds is probably in my top 3

Random unarmed hand-to-hand combat headcanon for Hiccup + a bit for Snotlout

I'll just throw out my toughts, wtvr, it's kinda for AU. When I really love Hiccup punching Snotlout & knocking him out cold, no one can make me ever believe that Hiccup is the stronger one of the two (what I don't think is a popular idea, but I did see it so yeah)

Hiccup is quite strong by the RTTE times (kinda canon for rtte?? idk? mostly my headcanon by hammering in slightly more realistic physics & stuff) but I think that in hand-to-hand combat Hiccup relies on dodging & "speed blitzing" his opponent in the fatal spots as swiftly & fast as possible to end fight early on, because most of them are stronger/heavier than him and he can't really afford them to catch up and reach him </3

Snotlout is stronger and usually can tank a hit better. In fact, most of the time dude is like ~<90% raw power and ~>10% strategy lol. Type of guy that instead of doing much dodging plants his feet in the ground, guards his head and takes a hit waiting for opening to knock opponent out clean
