so i finally read seasons of glass and iron

which won the hugo for short story this year, and it was the gay feminist fairytale deconstruction i didn’t know i needed.

But afterwards i looked it up online, and found a review that said, and i quote:

“It’s also message fiction with a troubling conclusion: that women should give up on husbands in order to find their freedom with each other. [...] This has a slight misandrous feel.”

a) no fucking kidding

b) “troubling”

c) “slight”

d) how is anyone of this a downside

Katie Dippold liked my tweet about Ghostbusters and the Hugo Awards! I was surprised because I didn’t think she was super active on Twitter.

(She and Feig were both nominated as the writers of Ghostbusters for the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form. The awards were announced yesterday. Arrival won, which was no surprise since it’s the most sf of all the works on the ballot and only one comedy has ever won a Hugo. But Ghostbusters made it onto the final ballot and a bunch of things like Stranger Things season 1, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Star Trek: Beyond didn’t, so. The love is out there.)
