apologies if you've been asked this before but is there a collective term for both domestic shorthairs and domestic longhairs? like if i wanted to refer to only those breeds and exclude all other breeds of cat

i did try googling and got the term "moggy" but that seems to just be slang and i'd like a more formal term if there is one

I don’t think there’s a good formal term, unfortunately.

In the cat fancy there’s the “Household Pet” class in which they would generally fall under… but experimental breeds not yet recognized or non-standard variants of existing breeds are also shown in the HHP class so it isn’t exclusive.

I use the word moggy and I’ll also use the term “random-bred” to describe cats without any breed heritage (DSH/DLH) to distinguish them from purebred and mixed breed cats.
