Are there other harpies that learned to speak human languages? Maybe not under Kree’s circumstances but it would be interesting.

Of course there are, and they learn human language for a variety of reasons/circumstances such as

-Trade (not as common now for obvious reasons) -Attempts at peacemaking -Secret friendships especially between youths -Getting trapped/ caged by humans -Spying on humans

Etc!

How did the world develop different languages?

Isn’t it interesting to think we used to be a united race? One language. One love. Until we screwed up by being too big for our britches...? We could create a united race and a united world again, though, through love.

I do not have a single favourite human language, anonymous stranger. What interests me most about human languages is their ceaseless capacity for change and the creative ways in which they are used and combined. Though not all changes are for the better - someone recently informed me of some new terminology in the English language that was quite disturbing. We are so used to the existence of an entity called 'language' (lingua), and the isolation of signification distinct from actual discourse is for us so familiar, that we do not realize that what is brought to light for the first time in this distinction is a fundamental structure of human language that distinguishes it from any other language, and that it is only starting from this structure that something like a science and a philosophy become possible. If Plato and Aristotle have been considered the founders of grammar, this is because their reflection of language laid the basis on which grammarians later managed to construct—through an analysis of discourse—what we call language (lingua), and interpret the act of speech—which is the only real experience—as the implementation of an entity of reason called language (lingua) (such as the Greek language; the Italian language; etc.).
