Small Reactions: Hung from Wire (self-released)
With just three songs serving as the preface to Small Reactions' forthcoming Similar Phantoms full-length, the group shows off that its members have all become a lot more comfortable in their roles on the Hung from Wire EP (out July 15). The title track and "Betamax (1981)" roll with a sense of spontaneity in their noisy guitars and Stereolab-esque grooves. Inner-band chemistry has grown more potent over time. With lyrics that ruminate on everything from sleepless nights to silverfish creeping around the bedroom, the song takes the lead, setting a stage for a larger album that seems destined to explore the unease of domestic nightlife. — CR
