Hunt α: Hunter II
Bard quickly realised his capture wasn't exactly a fluke. It was ensured en masse. He flinched as Eric prodded his side with his sword. "Keep pace, rat!" came the menacing growl. "You sound less scary already captain," quipped Bard. "Keep the phlegm in the throat and the menace keeps itself." He winced again. "Funny man, Song." "Mister Song," corrected Bard. He gave another sharp wince. It wasn't a long march, before the order to stop was barked down. The camp was huge, but only seemed to contain a small unit of armed men. Bard still felt the illusion of space take his breath. He was brought back to his senses with another prod. He winced almost out of habit. His side was numbed with pain. "Cosy," commented Bard. Eric grunted. "Captain!" addressed a burly man, approaching the party. "The captive is to be handed over." "Glad to hand over the rat, corporal." Eric said flatly. "Oh wait, one more thing." Bard winced. Bard was brought through the flap doors of the large tent. A man sat at a table with a small map and scraps of paper and parchment. He lifted his large blue eyes to greet them. "Thank you corporal," his loud voice said. The corporal nodded and left Bard standing there. The man put down his quill and looked at Bard. Bard saw something familiar in the blue eyes. "Well mister Song?" he started, propping himself straight. "Anything?" Bard looked at him, unable to avert his eyes. "What do you want?" "Getting to the point I see." the commander sighed. "What did you steal?" Bard breathed in deeply, finally wrenching his eyes free, before sharply exhaling. A smile played on his lips. "As the hunters become the hunted." There was a scream of terror in the dark. Hyul didn't even flinch. Bard lost all his stillness and stepped forward with a triumphant smile. "Perhaps you might note that down," he sneered. He turned to leave the tent. "A moment Bard," called a hard voice. Bard looked around the tent before realising it was the commander. His eyes narrowed. "Hyul?" he hissed. "Anonymous Song?" Hyul replied, his left eyebrow raised. "You could have done better." "I could kill you right now!" said Bard, his fists bunching up. "You could," paused Hyul, fingering his quill. "I wouldn't want to keep you waiting though." Bard turned away and left the tent. Hyul shifted slightly in his chair.
