Thinking about the Data - 1977 - Present

Why 1977? 1977 is the year that Northern Atlantic Hurricanes began to be named alternating unisex names. 

I'm currently using HSI (hurricane severity index) values that incorporate wind speed with area of the hurricane. (Table)

(input) Breath Sensor 

(Table) Hurricane Name, Gender, Year, Intensity. 

I can't help but feel that something is still missing in this story...

How do you actually measure the intensity and impact of a hurricane. Is there one number that would stand for the hurricane? 

As I was researching this, I discovered the Hurricane Severity Index (HSI).

Takes into account:

Duration

Scope of /Type of Damage

Height and Extent of Storm Surge

Offshore wave heights

Rainfall amounts

Likelihood of being impacted
