Avalon - Roxy Music
I grabbed this one while down in Tucson again. It is a stamped Promo copy with a hype sticker for the third single.
I'm a big fan of promo copies because they typically are the first off the press and sound a bit better than the mass-produced versions that come later. (Back when records sold hundreds of thousands of copies, they would run more records off the same Master. Now with lower runs I don't think it's as bad.)
This copy is no exception, and it has restored my faith in the new turntable. The drums pop, the keys fill the stereo space, and the whole album feels as lush as you'd imagine from this Roxy Music release. I dig their early stuff, but they really hit their stride on this; their last LP before Brian went solo.
Of course...now I'm wondering how it would have sounded on my old Technics... 🙁
