How do you deal with the racism of the LGBT community? As a gay black man of color I find it increasingly difficult to deal with the being excluded from the community altogether, unless it's for an AIDS ad. I really want my boyfriend to be able to see gay men of color in positive advertisement I understand that he can see me but I feel like there needs to be more.

So this is a really tough question because I don’t think that people are going to like the answer I give?

I’m going to start by suggesting you check out this think piece written by @uncredited-protagonist on the differences between the labels “Gay” and “Queer” nd the political connotations both carry. 

If you want to see more men of color, you need to change where you’re looking. In the U.S. More people of color openly identify as queer than white people. So we’re out there, We’re on youtube, on instagram, on tumblr, we’re there in society, at the front of social movements and in pop culture. Now if you’re looking for us in mainstream culture, you’re not going to find us because right now the Gay rights movement is run in majority by rich white men.but this isn’t reflective of the reality. So like if you’re looking for us in the mainstream you’re probably not going to find what you’re looking for.but it’s out there you are just going to have to search for or create that media you’re looking for.
