Ollie said Hyacinth’s been a good influence on his roommate, though. Apparently he was on academic probation when the semester started, but he’s been going to the library almost every day with Hyacinth so she can help him with his homework.

Life went on in the Crescendo household, Wisteria and Hyacinth settling into their new life with ease. Although they missed their mother and the city they’d grown up in, spending cool desert evenings in the courtyard with their new family was soon a nightly routine.
Prose: This is Pluton -- mon copain -- uh, boyfriend? He... does not speak English well.
Hyacinth: That’s okay, I don’t really speak any French, so I guess we’ll get along, ha ha...
Pluton: Qu’est-ce qu’elle a dit ?
Prose: Elle a dit qu'elle ne parle que l’anglais. I am excited you are here! I hope we will be good friends this year!
Hyacinth: Yeah, same. Maybe I’ll even learn some French along the way and get to be friends with Pluton, too!
Meanwhile, on what seemed like the other side of the world, Hyacinth was settling into her new home for the next year -- a dormitory at an elite boarding school.
Although initially disappointed she didn’t have a host family to live with, she told herself this would be an opportunity to meet more students her own age. She was especially looking forward to getting to know her roommate, whom she’d been told was one of the top students in her class...
...but was currently nowhere to be found.
Hyacinth: Well -- I guess I’ll just... drop my stuff and start putting it away -- oh?
Pluton: Bon, si vous allez vous parler en anglais, je vais partir.
Prose: C’est pas ma faute qu’elle ne comprend--
Pluton: Je plaisante ! Mais il faut que j’y aille.
Hyacinth: He’s leaving? He doesn’t have to leave just because I’m here, I don’t mind if he stays -- oh -- um--
Prose: [giggling] Pluton !
Hyacinth: I guess I’ll just, um, wait here for a sec, then. Or should I give you two a minute, or--?
Prose: But where are my manners? Bienvenue chez nous !
Hyacinth: You look like you’re already pretty settled in.
Prose: Bien sûr. This room has been mine for four years, it is my home! Ma camarade de chambre -- your exchange partner, she is like a sister to me. I will miss her this year, but it is good for her to travel, see the world.
Hyacinth: You didn’t want to travel?
Prose: Someday. But I prefer to finish my studies first.
Hyacinth: You know, I think I actually like this place better than the academy.
Wisteria: Really?
Hyacinth: Yeah. It’s great not having to wear uniforms every day, isn’t it?
Wisteria: I dunno. Made getting dressed in the morning a lot easier.
Hyacinth: Yeah, but don’t even try to tell me you actually liked wearing those stupid sweaters and ties every day.
Wisteria: They made everyone equal, at least.
Hyacinth: Uh, no, people were still jackasses. Like, think about it. Remember that guy in your chemistry class? Total dick. Or like, if you put Oleander in a sweater vest and tie, he’d still be an asshat.
Wisteria: [giggling] Yeah, I guess you’re right.
