i don't talk about hyde/eric on this blog but today i am having Feelings... specifically about a fic that explores hyde's "crush" on donna in S1 and how it would have made SO MUCH SENSE if it precipitated a realization that his jealousy of eric is totally misplaced and the person he's jealous of is, in fact, donna.....

getting "jealous" of m/f couples and grappling with super strong confused feelings really is such a specific queer experience. i cannot count the times in high school that i would get "jealous" of cute girls who had boyfriends and i thought it was bc i had a crush on their boyfriend. like no honey you wanted to BE the boyfriend

yes!

- Eric playing with Hyde’s curls and Hyde putting up with it

- staying up past midnight and watching tv, eating popsicles and cuddling in the basement

- they get high just the two of them, and Hyde can’t stop feeling the texture of Eric’s sweater

- Hyde finds a specific tv show incredibly boring but won’t say so because Eric loves the show

- late night drives, talking about anything and everything

- and then parking somewhere past midnight and cuddling/making out

- Eric wanting to know more about Hyde’s past family life and Hyde being super vague about it, and Eric feeling deeply sad that somebody hurt Hyde

- Eric wearing Hyde’s t-shirts and the group not even noticing

- Eric sneaking down to sleep in Hyde’s room/Hyde sneaking up to sleep in Eric’s room

- the two punching each other in the shoulders/patting each other on the back/sometimes even bro hugging in front of the group to express love

- Hyde was the first one to say “I love you,” and immediately looked away and mumbled, “You don’t have to say it back, just don’t say you love cake.” Eric said it back.
