Through the hydrologic cycle, the ocean water is heated through solar radiation (the sun), salt is separated as it evaporates, and the wind (the atmosphere) carries the moisture over the land, where is falls to the ground as rain. The fallen rain is captured in other bodies of water, such as lakes and streams, which then transport it back out to the sea.
