I, Doris share new song ‘Just Some Doris’
London-based DIY-pop queens I, Doris release some banging mummycore this winter: the band’s own theme-tune, ‘Just Some Doris’.
This instant-earworm-indie-anthem, laced with sarcastic humour, lays out the I, Doris raison d’etre: they rail against society’s tendency to disregard ‘women over 40’, denying them their voice, their individuality, and even their name. “Just some Doris, you can just ignore us. Don’t need to know my name. Girls are all the same…”
On-stage, the band are all called Doris, as emblazoned in diamantes on their trademark tabbards. Off-stage, they’re Cassie Fox (founder of the LOUD WOMEN festival – bass and vox), Lucy Morgan (ex-Thee Faction – keytar and vox), Abby Werth (Argonaut – guitar and vox), and Louisa Edwards Knight (Crack Foxes – drums).
Some Doris says: “If we were darts players, this song would be our entrance music at the Frimley Green Country Club. We should totally be darts players.”
The single follows the release this spring of I, Doris’ debut, ‘The Girl From Clapham’ – a Chris Difford-approved re-working of Squeeze’s ‘Up the Junction’, giving her side of the classic story.
