Hey what are you getting at the Scholastic book fair?

ooc but this kinda hit me with a sort of bittersweet nostalgia

i never really got any money to buy things at the book fair. i always felt kinda left out when all my friends would be getting their cool books and little toys, but it was fun anyway. i always ended up looking at pokemon encyclopedias and those grow your own crystals kits. i think the only novelty thing i bought were those smelly pencils, and i still have them because i was too afraid to use them. i really don't know what i'd buy now.

i remember the elementary school library. i used to really love reading. my favorite book was called "and the z got zapped" or something, and there was a fish tank by the shelf where that book went. that book was never on the shelf because i always had it checked out. that and some kind of informational book about, like... the human body or dinosaurs or something. there were also these weird outdoorsy books about camping and fishing and identifying animal tracks. they had a christmas tree in there around the holidays, and the librarian would read us stories. it was really nice

*spoilers ahead*

us (2019) is one of those movies that you start watching like "HOLY SHIT" then leave the theatre like "... hm ok" and three days afterwards you're still thinking about it. and it's not even the creepy scenes of the film that stick with you. it's like its meanings and themes all start to unrevel with time away from it and the tragedy of inequality dawns on you like a ton of bricks when you remember *adelaide*'s face - as she dies and the tethered one goes on with the weight of having done what she needed to do to survive live - and realize how fucking unfair life is

I’ve been thinking about Amaranth’s charisma abilities, which fell into a deep character analysis of my own D&D character (which is nothing new tbh). I’ve said before a large part of her charisma comes from being this sheer force of passion and will-power. Amaranth is in part, a hedonist. She indulges in life, she likes to soak in everything that comes her way. It’s an important part of how I try to play her. When she feels, she feels everything. When she loves, she loves with every part of her being. When she hates, it’s a destructive all-encompassing hatred. Without delving into backstory stuff, this passion was a large part of what her crew saw in her, and how she inspired them.
