kay so

August 12th. I'm in the car on a 10-hour roadtrip to visit my dad. I'm called by [prospective employer] to schedule a job interview. I regretfully inform [hiring manager] that I'm out of town and will be for two weeks.

last Thursday I make the call. it's been a couple days since I got back from my vacation. I have to jump through hoops to get connected to someone. finally someone picks up. "oh, [hiring manager] said we're not doing any of that until after the holiday weekend. sorry." O kay

today. alarm goes off in early afternoon so I remember to call. I spend an hour agonizing, hyperventilating, trying not to cry, and figuring out what the fuck to say to [hiring manager] before I actually dial. I jump through fewer hoops this time, connect to someone after holding for a kind of stupid amount of time. "hi I'm calling back to schedule a job interview? I was told to ask for [hiring manager]—" "OH sorry [hiring manager] is off today, you'll have to call back tomorrow"
