to me, that means she was LEAVING, DEPARTING NYC. what was there for her? isn’t karlie in new york when she’s not abroad? then why is she leaving? who is she sneaking back and forth for?????? she still doesn’t address her favorite city. she’s talking to someone else the whole time.

unless, i have given this thought as well, this song is written from the other half of the relationship’s point of view. which would mean karlie is trying to get her to stay and believe that their relationship was more than a *whispers* swiftgron rebound. this frames the line: “in the ocean separating us remember how i’d fly to you?” pretty well, especially when “i came all the way from rome for this” is something karlie actually said.

she hasn’t been there for three years and says it’s inspired by a movie. karlie can have this song. that’s leading up to “this summer is the apocalypse”. and she obviously spent time in nashville that summer...she also says she’d never be able to go back....and she technically hasn’t had to. that can go either way.

she finished the album in LA and chose an aesthetic that is familiar if you follow enough LA-based influencers. a brighter, happier, still soft color scheme. (not to metion brie + unicorn store which was filmed in LA)

tracks that were recorded or partially recorded in LA: it’s nice to have a friend, i forgot that you existed, cruel summer (electric lady is also listed), i think he knows, miss americana and the heartbreak prince, paper rings (metropolis in london is also listed), london boy (metropolis, electric lady also listed), you need to calm down, afterglow.

a lot of back and forth from new york tbh...also reading the recording locations and they really did spend a decent amount of time in london working on this, i’m assuming while she was also filming Cats. remember when brie’s friend popped up w that cats cap a few weeks ago
