Who is your favorite of the new silhouettes? I think mine is twisted meg (though im mourning the fact that none of them will be women :( )
oooh a tough question...I think Meguyra is the one I'm most excited for, being obviously extremely biased towards anything Meg-related, and also, he just looks cool af. look at that practiced nonchalance. he's the closest RSA is gonna get to the kid who cuts class to smoke behind the gym, which I guess means that he...idk...turns in his homework LATE and TEN WORDS short of the limit. take that, authority!
...ahem. that said, HatBoy is the one whose design I most want to see, just because SO much of him is hidden by the hat and all the flowy bits, you really can't tell much about the guy under all of it! the floating/fairy-theming makes me think he might be fae, and I'm SUPER curious to see more of the day fairies (and of the night fairies too tbh. just...more of the fae in general.) and also to know if he's gonna tie into my Diaboys' story at all. the possibilities are neverending!!
and if it turns out he really is just so covered in fabric that we never get to actually see him...tbh I wouldn't hate that either.
To be honest, I really like the idea that when the characters first realize that they're in a game, they hate the player (or are afraid of them), but then they start to like them because of how the player behaves during the game
They notice that the player is not a heartless person, but rather an ordinary person who doesn't know that the characters have "come to life" and doesn't realize that they might have caused someone pain, discomfort, or even anger (which wouldn't be surprising, especially if the aggressors were Ace or Epel, or even Yuu)
And what if a player was in the game before they were accepted and wanted to be summoned to their world? It would be hell
Imagine you're in your favorite game and you think you can make friends with someone, but you end up facing a lot of hatred. I think there will still be a few students who won't hate the player, or at least not as much (I personally believe that Kalim definitely wouldn't hate the player, and maybe Trey could tolerate the player's presence because he might want to figure out if the player is actually cruel or if it's just a misconception, and maybe Rook out of curiosity)
And by the way, I don't know if you've read "I didn't ask to get isekaied" by Shiny-jr. but I really like the idea that the player might have been harassed or something worse, and as a result, the player refuses to interact with any of them
Of course, we won't go so far as to say that the characters want the player to die or anything like that, but just imagine how much they'd go out of their way to see the player and get a request from them. It's a miracle (if I were in their situation, I would probably lock myself in a room and not leave except at night to get more food)
Now, let's move away from the topic for a moment, but I've been thinking about the possibility that the player seen by the characters behind the screen might be very different from the real player
And to put it simply, the characters found out what the player's character really was, like a player who was quite a cheerful and joyful person, but once in the game they behave differently (for example, the player is not as cheerful as they thought) and if they could not see the player and then found out that the player is not what they imagined personally, I am amused by the idea that they thought that the player has an unearthly beauty, but in fact they are not that beautiful or maybe worse (I do not condemn anyone for external flaws, I personally faced harassment because of my appearance and I'm just giving an example here) and they just... Well, not very happy about it, and I think Vil has taken on the player's appearance (with a softer grip than Epel's)
I love the potential of yandere au because so many things could happen but I think that's about it for now. I might be able to write something else, but it's unlikely to happen anytime soon
(oh my goodness I'm so late answering this- completely forgot to check my inbox for a bit lolol)
Anyway though, AHH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH GIVE ME A MOMENT TO WRITE DOWN MY THOUGHTS :D
I'm always a big fan of the conflicts that can come from self aware au, because realistically these guys aren't going to just accept this right away, y'know? I mean, would you take it well if you randomly found out someone has been observing your life and controlling you, all the while thinking your world and life is a game? Even if they aren't cruel about it, it would still be a horrifying ordeal (at least for me)
So I love this idea! Especially with the NRC boys, they wouldn't take it well (outside of yandere au-) I especially love when they just kinda hate the player? Because personally that's what I'd feel if I was ever in that situation. At least at the beginning. Y'know what? Give me a moment here- (under the cut because it got longer than expected)
Riddle would be outraged to find out someone has been spying on him and controlling him, especially if it's before the end of book one. Afterwards he may give them a little benefit of the doubt, especially if they're nice to him. But once you arrive in twst, he's going to ignore your existence entirely. Not wanting anything to do with you.
Cater would be shocked and creeped out at first, with some random person just watching his life and everyone elses, and that feeling wouldn't go away for months. Even after he realized you weren't a bad person, and didn't mean them any harm. Once you show up in twst, he would also act like he's ignoring you, but whenever he knows you're in earshot he'll say something vague about privacy that's definitely about you.
Trey wouldn't know what to think at first, unable to understand why someone would spy on everyone like that. Once he realizes you think of it all as a game, he might get annoyed with you, even if you treat him kindly. He wouldn't say it out loud though, even once you show up in twst. He might talk to you, but he'll never initiate conversation. And something in the way he looks at you shows that he doesn't want anything to do with you. Even if he's smiling.
Deuce would be confused and angry, before his emotions turn more mixed as he sees you don't mean harm. Heck, you might even care about them. But that isn't enough to make him fully change his opinion of you. ...once you're in twst, he might be one of the only people that you'd possibly be able to talk to without annoyance. But you're still on thin ice with him.
Ace won't put it lightly, he felt absolutely infuriated when he found out about you. You've been controlling Yuu, and spying on him and everyone else, all while acting like his life means nothing and is just a game for your entertainment! Sure you may act nice about it, but that doesn't excuse it! Once you're in twst, he's going to make your life hell. You'll wish he just ignored you like Riddle, instead he's going out of his way to remind you every chance he gets of exactly how much he despises you.
Leona pretended to be indifferent, but kept judging you harshly with every word you spoke as you acted like you deserved to pry into his life. Getting entertainment even from his overblot... You made him sick. Sure you might've acted sweet or even caring, but at the end of the day you just saw him as a character in a game. Once you're in twst, he'll have nothing to do with you. But if you seek out conversation, he'll take every opportunity to insult you and tear you down.
Ruggie was completely shocked when he learned about you, before getting defensive knowing that you got to see way more about him than he'd ever share willingly. He didn't like you one bit, but he's one of the only people here that'll at least pretend to welcome you with open arms. If you liked him back through the screen, then he's going to profit off that as much as he can, all while laughing behind your back.
Jack would be shocked and disgusted knowing someone has just been watching him and some of the others this whole time, and he's absolutely ready to teach you a lesson about privacy that you'll never forget. Even if you're nice to him, he can't respect someone controlling people from behind the safety of a screen, even if you don't fully understand what you're doing. Once you're in twst, he'll try and follow his housewarden's example and ignore you, but if you talk to him first then he'll finally teach you that lesson in person.
Azul was confused at first, then upset. Someone has just been watching him, every vulnerable moment during his overblot observed like some sort of entertainment!? Everything you've seen of him is just a game to you?!? Very well then, two can play at that game. So what if you were 'nice' to him? As soon as you're in twst, you better believe you're getting blackmailed with every little secret and bit of private information he could get his hands on through the screen.
Jade was intrigued when he found out about you, then peeved. At first the thought of someone in another world was interesting, but then he realized the reality of it. You viewed him as a plaything, a character in a story you liked. You may have been kind, but in the same way a child might act sweetly to their dolls. And that's what made him... Upset. Once you're in twst? Well I'd say to try and stay away from him, but we both know that wouldn't work :)
Floyd thought it was a funny joke at first, some rando from another world is acting like they belong here? Controlling the others like toys, while talking like you actually care~ but he got bored of it quickly, and then started hating you. It was the same thing every day with you. You show up, you throw some people into lessons or do some other boring thing he's seen too much by now, all while acting like his world revolves around you. Once you're in twst...? Yeah I've got nothing, you're on your own for this one. Better just hope he gets bored of you quick~
Kalim was easily the most conflicted out of everyone. You weren't mean, in fact you were kind. But that didn't mean you weren't hurting his friends, even if it was unintentionally. While he'll be the quickest one to forgive once you're in twst, you're going to have as stern a talking to as Kalim can do. ...plus he'll be trying to get you and the others to be friends again, so uh... Just be a little careful. Good intentions though!
Jamil despised you with every fibre of his being. It wasn't enough that he was under the control of the Asim family, but now he was literally under your control!? His torment and frustration were all just an interesting story to you?! And if you were kind, that's all the worse. Because it would just remind him of Kalim. ...whatever you do once you're in twst, don't look into his eyes. Kalim may try to help, but it won't work, not for Jamil...
Vil felt bitter. He may be an actor, but his life isn't just another story to spectate. Yet there you were, an audience that didn't even realize the actors were real. His life story laid bare without his consent, and you watching along like you deserved to see it! He knew you didn't know better, but that made it all the worse sometimes. He couldn't even describe it, he just could stand your smiling face... Once you're in twst, I'd recommend just staying away from him. He may hate you, but he won't waste his time on things like you.
Rook was another conflicted one among them, knowing how it felt to want to observe the things you loved and found beauty in. And some days it even hurt him to see how much you wanted to be with them all. Your care for the people around him, and himself, reminding him all too much of his own views. ...but that didn't change how you hurt those he cares for... Once you arrive in twst, he won't hurt you, he won't judge you. He can't. But he can't stand to look at you. You couldn't find him even if you tried.
Epel couldn't stand you, the way you acted like you were entitled to his life and the folks around him! He couldn't stand the control, or the way you'd grin after he made a joke meant for his friends! Not you! Dagnabbit, he almost hated you more than Vil! Once you were in twst, you best believe he's immediately challenging you to a fight. And again, and again. Honestly it's going to be on-sight with him until you either settle your differences (unlikely) or graduate (much more likely)
Idia was absolutely horrified to discover you existed, but accepted it far faster than anyone else purely because he was so familiar with anime tropes. he just never expected to be in the position of THE CHARACTER™! He gets a crawling feeling whenever you watch him, even if it's without judgement. Geez, ever heard of privacy??? ...just leave him alone, he understands he's a game character to you, but it still creeps him out when you treat him like one. He doesn't hate you, but he hates that he can relate with you. Thankfully you have nothing to worry about in twst, because he's just going to avoid you. Literally, you'll never meet him once. Probably for the best.
Ortho was immediately ready to blast you with lasers for making Idia uncomfortable, of course you were in another world, but he could probably hack your device with Idia's help! ...then Idia decided against retaliating against you, because he said he 'related with you' even if he didn't like it. So Ortho put off his plans to take revenge. ...until you entered twst and then it was fully game mode. He hacked all the devices you had with ease, making them impossible to do anything with. Then spread rumors about you around school. ...that's what you deserve for hurting his big brother... Right?
Malleus couldn't understand you, watching him and the others as entertainment. What joy could you possibly derive from this? At first he didn't mind you, then he grew to hate you as he saw you controlling those he cares about and himself, then he grew conflicted hearing how much you obviously cared about him and this world. At least a small part of him understands the feeling of wanting a life impossible to attain... Still, he can't accept your actions. Once you're in twst, he hesitates with his actions, deciding to wait and judge how you'll behave in this world before he acts. Hopefully you don't disappoint.
Lilia was surprisingly (or unsurprisingly) one of the nicer ones. He figured out quickly that you didn't mean any harm, and even cared about them, and didn't grow to hate you for the control. ...though he was a little upset when he saw you controlling Malleus, Silver, and Sebek. So once you enter twst, he won't 'get revenge on you'. At least not in the normal way. Be prepared for an onslaught of pranks though~
Silver felt conflicted once he learned about you. You cared about them, and were kind, but still you saw them all as a game and treated them as such. Controlling them. He couldn't stand for that. And once you enter twst, he's going to teach you a lesson in respect. ...literally, he's going to sit you down and explain what you did wrong. After that, he'll possibly accept you as long as Lilia and the others don't hold any extra ill will towards you. But it'll be a looonnnnggggg talk.
Sebek was absolutely and utterly indignant and ready to attack once he discovered you were controlling MALLEUS!!! AND LILIA!? Not only that, but his own personal loss of control rendered him useless as Malleus's guard. So he held that against you as well. Your words didn't matter so long as your actions continued. So once you arrived in twst, he immediately challenged you to a duel. Holding back nothing. He may eventually begrudgingly accept you if the others do, but he'll never warm up to you.
Grim didn't know what to think finding out that someone had been controlling his henchhuman all along, or at least during the big stuff. But he definitely didn't like it! The only one that can order his henchhuman around is him! You didn't control him as much as the others, but when you did he also hated that!! Once you show up, he's gonna throw fireballs at you when he sees you. Eventually he'll calm down, but he'll demand you give him tuna everyday as payment for him not attacking you. (Worth it-)
Yuu was scared of you. Everything you did, you did through them. They started questioning where they ended and you began. It terrified them. They started hating you for it. ...no, hate doesn't feel like a strong enough word. It was all consuming, the sort of emotion humans weren't meant to hold onto for so long, affecting their life in the worst ways. ...but could you even call it 'their life'? Once you're in twst, they couldn't believe it. Facing you for the first time, they were paralyzed. With anger? Fear? They didn't know. All they knew was that they wanted to be as far away from you as possible. And that's what they did. They backed away and ran from you, and they continued to do that every time they saw you. They don't even like hearing about how the others are treating you, even if they used to think that was all they wanted. They just... Can't deal with you. No matter what.
Okay, y'know what, that was longer than I expected- sorryyyyy! Hopefully it wasn't too dark, I just like the angst that can come with the self aware au haha
But YES I have read 'i didn't ask to get isekai'd' by shiny jr! They're one of my favorite writers, and a big inspiration for my own writing! And that's easily one of my favorite works of theirs, along with the damnation series haha. Absolutely 10/10, I'm probably going to go and read that later-
In that sort of situation though, I agree kind of? Except that I would just sneak out randomly so no one could learn my schedule. Probably going to also team up with Rook for disguises, so even if I was spotted I wouldn't be recognized again.
Maybe eventually I'd accept their apologies, but it really depends. And if I didn't, I'd just stake it all with Rook and go off to those mansions or whatever properties his family owns, because they have teleporters that would let me explore and see the world of twst in person (something I really want to do!) without big risk of meeting the others.
Yes I'd probably have to accept Vil and Epel (it would be much easier to accept Epel) to be on really good terms with Rook, but that's a price I'm definitely willing to pay. (Yes I did think about this extensively after reading it for the first time haha) If you haven't read the series yet, I'd highly recommend it! Absolutely beautiful!!
Anyway, I LOVE the idea of their idea of the player not lining up with how they behave or look irl! While I don't think they would ever find you 'ugly' (seriously, if they like you then they wouldn't care about your looks) (okay except maybe Vil, but like that's because he wants to give you a cool skincare routine and new outfits. And he'd never think of you as bad looking)
Anyway, again while I don't think they'd find you unattractive, they may easily be surprised by what you look like. Personally I think Lilia and Rook would be disappointed you aren't some eldritch horror beyond their comprehension lolol (I mean can you imagine?)(I almost wanna write that now-)
And they would definitely be surprised by my own personality, because while I can chat and be cheerful for hours and hours while playing twst, I can be very reserved and introverted in person. So much so that I've been compared to Idia lolol. And I would imagine that could come as a shock to them!
Genuinely very funny to imagine they're expecting someone cheerful and extroverted like Kalim, and then they end up with Idia2 haha
Even though I'm mostly imagining this in a general self aware au, it has incredible potential for a yandere self aware au! Because think about it, they've seen a side of you no one else has, but also they have no clue what you're like outside of how you interact with twst. If you're isekai'd, I can imagine some of them holding onto their ideas of you, the version of you that they see before them just not matching up with their idea of you. And instead of growing and accepting who you are, they get the idea that the way you talked to them before (especially if you were more openly affectionate) was the "real you" and you were just too shy to show it now.
They'll start projecting their own image of you onto you, ultimately ignoring you as a whole. You're REALLY the version they believe you are, and not just this version that doesn't line up with their ideas of you. For example, I can mumble and stutter a bit when I'm talking to someone and feel nervous (so most times) but I don't when I'm talking aloud while playing twst. So in their minds, the "real me" is the one who doesn't stumble over her words, y'know?
Honestly I don't know where I was going with this, but I love this idea! Even if I did make it a little darker than it could've been haha. Thanks for the ask! And again- sorry for the late reply! I've been a little busy with a new job, and it's definitely messing up my usual schedule lolol.
In any case though, I hope you have a wonderful day, and remember to drink some water and get some rest! Also if anyone has ideas they wanna share about self aware twst, feel free to talk about it! It's always fun reading this sort of stuff :D
HEY EVERYONE, I HAVE AN IDEA FOR A COLLABORATIVE SIMPSONS DRAWING PROJECT!!!! I think it would be really cute 'n silly if everyone who wants to participate draws a Simpsons OC (or OCs) as somebody in this pic! My hope is for y'all to add on until we fill the table with everyone's OCs! Anyone can join, but mostly calling out to my mutuals! :3 Also PLEASE reblog this or send it to anyone you think would be interested in participating!!! I've never done anything like this before, so I'm excited to see how it goes!! :)
Imagine that you've found a beautiful hotspring, that you've visited for years after work... only to discover that there are three merfolk that have been watching you the entire time. One likes being hit, one causes problems on purpose, and the last one you faintly recognize yet he wants to break your back 😭
And yet you still stay there for another 130,000 words?!
Found something interesting for Pride and Prejudice fans relating to Elizabeth's takedown of Mr Darcy's perception of himself a gentleman.
I'm reading Thomas Fuller's 'The Holy State, and the Profane State' (published 1642 but this version republished in 1841 so the views were clearly still applicable) for a research essay, and in the chapter labelled 'The True Gentleman' he states:
He is courteous and affable to his neighbours … the truly generous are most pliant and courteous in their behaviour to their inferiors.
And of course, during the Hunsford proposal, Darcy has just objected to Elizabeth's family, she's called him out, and we get the iconic lines:
"Nor am I ashamed of the feelings I related. They were natural and just. Could you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your connections?—to congratulate myself on the hope of relations, whose condition in life is so decidedly beneath my own?"
"You are mistaken, Mr. Darcy, if you suppose that the mode of your declaration affected me in any other way, than as it spared the concern which I might have felt in refusing you, had you behaved in a more gentlemanlike manner."
So Elizabeth drops that bomb just after he's been ungenerous and discourteous about her inferior relations... in direct contradiction of one of the rules of true gentlemanly behaviour. No wonder he can't rebut her words at all in the moment, even though Darcy later says "it was some time, I confess, before I was reasonable enough to allow their justice." He might not believe he's got a real problem yet, but there's been examples Elizabeth could call on from even during the course of their conversation too blatant for him to disagree with entirely!
And then later, obviously, he reflects and finds it's true he also hasn't been gentlemanlike in this and other ways in too many aspects of his life.
