I just heard In The Blood by John Mayer and I swear it was written for Steve. Especially the “I can feel the love I want. I can feel the love I need. But it’s never going to come the way I am. Could I change it if I wanted could I rise above the food, could it wash out with the water or is it always in the blood”
oh my god, you are absolutely right!!! the ANGST!! wow, the line you wrote is especially accurate and i would think this one too:
and what about this feeling that i’m never good enough? will it wash out in the water, or is it always in the blood? (x)

i-deduce-skeletons Okay, so I...
I also was confused about tias backstory. I thought she was left for dead after fighting the monster? That she lost her fight and if you lose a fight you get kicked out. Would she have fought such a deadly monster pregnant? If babies were so important why would she take the risk fighting?
Mmmk Tia’s backstory is a little odd and I got most of it from the wiki, so I’d need to go back to her introduction episode to try to see how much of it is in there, but here’s what I got, take it with a grain of salt.
Tia was not pregnant when she fought the monster and then was banished, there is a period of time between her banishment and her capture by the Russians and THAT’S when she got pregnant, presumably by another rogue merman, though that’s obviously unclear.

Okay, so I guess everyone just forgot that they...
I was wondering that as well! What point besides showing that Ben could go down that far for that long? It worked and it would have done everything they needed without endangering ryns tribe.
It was also clearly a catalyst for Maddie discovering the experiments and forcing Ben and Ryn to have that conversation about whether she’d stay on land or not to be with him.
But if that’s all it was for, there are a million other ways that could have been revealed to Maddie, especially since Maddie didn’t reveal what SHE knew about the situation that Ryn did not, to force THAT conversation.
And we already knew he could go under for a long time with that bath scene where he’s serenely under the water past 10 minutes, so it also could have been about showing that he’s physically changing, getting the webs and the gills. And like the above, I think we could’ve seen that another way.

I can’t tell if they meant for us to truly believe...
Everything in this season felt so rushed and unsatisfying. I wonder if the show runners even thought they would get a third season so they kinda threw it together. like they asked themselves “hey what would Michael Bay do?”
I think it’s more that they weren’t sure if they’d get a FOURTH season. That or they keep wanting to get bigger and bigger but they’ve added too many storylines, they’ve split up too many characters into separate storylines, and now everyone had to be tied up real fast and it didn’t work.
Like there was an early episode in this season I actually praised for having like SIX separate plots happening in it and none of it feeling overly rushed.
I should have known it would lead to this.
Ben’s experiments, Tia’s attacks, saving Hope, Ted’s knowledge, the hybrids, Xander’s sheriff training, Maddie/Robb/Robb’s tribe, Dale needing to disappear for good, it all came to a head in this episode and they only had 40 minutes to tell it all and it all fell flat.
The battle couldn’t be very long, so Ryn beats Tia in a stupidly short amount of time, Ted gets a sudden 180 on his feelings about the hybrids, Robb’s tribe and Robb himself show up out of nowhere, Dale gets killed off real fast off-screen, Tia’s attacks are dealt with pretty easily and mostly off-screen, Ben’s experiments lead him to a potentially watery grave OFF-SCREEN.
They had to TELL US what happened more often than they could SHOW US what happened because they had to move onto the next plot line real fast.
They bit off more than they could chew this season and every single character got shafted because of it. Ben, Ryn, Maddie, Helen, Ted, Elaine, Katrina, Robb. Only Xander got a halfway decent arc this season and even in his arc, we lost Annie and his relationship with her over time. I hope she comes back if Siren gets renewed and she also gets brought in on the secret.
It sucks that it went down this way, though. It didn’t need to be. They easily could have had a very similar theme and storyline for this season without sacrificing a bunch of characterization to do it. They could’ve kept Polymarine together and revealed Robb sooner and had them work together in order to combine those storylines easier to allow more time for other stories, like Ted and Tia’s, to get more fleshed out. But they didn’t.
So all we’re left with is a mess. If they get renewed, I hope there’s enough backlash for them to learn from this and do better.
