BIOGRAPHY --
“Normal” was never a word to describe Iain Fitzpatrick’s life. In fact, if you were to ask Iain to describe the most formative influence in his life, he would say death. For anyone else, this would seem morbid to say the least, or a bit on the dramatic side, but for Iain, it was nothing short of the truth. The majority of his childhood was spent in constant fear. Born in Belfast, Ireland, Iain grew up in a time known as the Troubles. It was during this time that his father died, leaving Iain as the man of the house, a task that the nine-year-old took to heart. From that day, Iain did everything in his power to protect and provide for his mother and younger twin sister. After all, they were his responsibility. Only a few years later, when the Fitzpatrick twins were barely thirteen years old, their mother became a victim of a killer known only as the Belfast Strangler. Fatherless, and now motherless, the twins were moved to New York City to live with their father’s half-sister, a woman who they’d met only once before and who would become their primary caregiver.
Life in New York City was incredibly different than anything he’d known before. It was fast paced and the culture was different, but most importantly, it was a fresh start. There was no one there who looked at him with pity in their eyes. No one who knew what had happened to his mother. So, for the sake of his sister, Iain buried his emotions about everything that had happened in his life previously and powered through. School wasn’t difficult, but neither was it interesting. He did just enough to survive. In school, and in life. It was almost as if the part of him that had dreams and ambitions died with his mother. That was until the news broke that the Belfast Strangler had been arrested. The news and the face that accompanied it were burned into Iain’s mind. It appeared every time he closed his eyes and every time he opened them. They also reawakened some part of him – the part of him that was determined to see justice done, the part of him that wouldn’t sit back and allow anything to hurt his sister ever again. At twenty-one years old, Iain joined the police force. With his drive for justice, he was the perfect candidate. Iain rose through the ranks quickly, and within a few years time, as named a detective. He was then assigned to the Cold Case Unit and has since been throwing all of his efforts into solving crimes otherwise deemed unsolvable.
