Walking After Acconci (Redirected Approaches)
“Ultimately, Walking After Acconci is more than just a dialogue between two art works; intense, confrontational and compelling, it leaves the viewer who commits to watching it all the way through, tense, nervous and drained: its power is experiential as well as referential.” Marie-Anne McQuay
I witnessed this Art piece at the Birmingham Museum and Art gallery during the ‘I want I want’ Exhibition. I was completely captivated, transported into this man’s world through thick, sound-proof headphones and a large TV, having this man walk away and talk to you from a distance, then giving a feeling of invasion of privacy by walking up to the camera and talking right into the lens. His attitude and total disrespect to the audience makes you feel so uncomfortable and attacked, urging you to leave the conversation, but you can’t. Once you start watching this video piece, you have to stay and watch ‘til the very end.
