"Cannonball!" A huge splash of water hits Derek straight in the face, and Stiles bobs out of the water, his growing hair plastered wet across his forehead. He laughs at the look on Derek’s face, throwing his head back as he treads water. They haven’t been in this pool together since that time they don’t talk about, but it feels good, getting rid of the feeling that’s accompanied his thoughts of it. Washing them away with the sounds of laughter and poorly played games of Chicken.
Stiles wipes the chlorinated water from his eyes, and Derek raises an eyebrow. “Only you could look so exasperated at a party with only your closest friends.”
Derek sighs. “It’s not my party - I don’t have to pretend to enjoy it.” Not that he would be pretending. He is enjoying it, a little. Graduation party featuring breaking into the school pool at midnight? It sounds like… well, what he would’ve done, if the fire hadn’t happened. Stiles laughs, though, because that’s what he always does when Derek says something like that. The corner of his mouth turns up.
"I could offer distraction," Stiles tells him, swimming closer. There’s something in his eyes, and it looks a lot like determination - Derek wishes the chlorine didn’t fuck with scents so much. He gives him a skeptical glance, and Stiles grins.
Then he disappears.
Derek knows he just dropped under the water, but still, he’s a little terrified until Stiles pulls on his leg, popping back up a little too close to be normal. “Come on, take a hint, big guy,” he says with a tiny smirk, like he’s so confident, like he knows just what to do. Derek’s going to call him on it. “I’ve been 18 for three months.”
In a sec.
He looks around, but no one is watching them - Allison and Cora are on Isaac and Scott’s respective shoulders, kicking ass and taking names, and the others are watching with jubilant glee.
Derek drops under the water.
The chlorine stings his sensitive eyes for a moment, but Stiles drops with him, and the muffling of his senses makes everything sharp, when all he can do is feel because his sight is blurry and his hearing’s shot and everything smells like chemicals and water. For a moment he thinks nothing’s going to happen, and he starts to swim up, but Stiles catches the back of his neck and then they’re kissing.
They still are when their heads hit the surface, and if they still are when the girls stop playing and start pointing, they don’t quite notice the switch.
ARENA: The Aquarium
DURATION: September 22nd, 2013 - September 28th, 2013.
When rebels and villains alike wake from their drug-induced slumber, they find their movements slow and sluggish - at least, those encumbered by the thickness of water. They will be wearing wetsuits which should keep those affected by the cold from dying of frostbite. There are twelve small caves there, each evenly spaced around the perimeter of the arena; one for each person. Each cave is guarded by a creature of the deep, and each one is unique. The first obstacle will be battling their way through this creature, though if they manage to best them, they will be given an advantage moving forward. There are many locations throughout the arena, and the water, upon first look, seems endless, dark and deep. Those who are unable to breathe underwater have been magically implanted with gills, and these will last until the week is up, or until they have been incapacitated and removed from the arena.
Sectors → Please keep up with where your character is at any given time, whether they're quite aware of their location or not. The water has been lit by deep lighting all around, and there are hardly any places your character will be blind or having trouble seeing. This arena is not particularly large, because there are not enough people for it, so your character will run into obstacles as well as their friends and foes quite easily. The environmental sectors are not spaced exactly evenly, but their locations and the creatures within will be described in their individual descriptions. Throughout this arena are walkways, built either on stilts or into the landscape, for those who cannot swim or want to wade through the water instead.
The Reef → This sector lies on the ocean floor. It is full of a variety of colorful plants and wildlife, and most are harmless (take, for instance, the array of plimpies). In fact, many of them are edible - but be very careful, because there are a few plants that are absolutely deadly (Hint: Communicuffs will be helpful in figuring out what to eat). Mermaids occasionally patrol, but they eat bigger fish than those living in the reef, and if you can find a place to hide they will not seek you out.
The Caves → These are the blind spots, for humans. Vampires may be able to see, but almost nothing will be visible in the caves, though they are almost completely safe. There are many types of creatures thriving in the dark, but most are harmless - however, staying in the caves is a venture into the unknown, and the rare dangerous creature will be deadly. It is wise not to linger here for very long, for the longer you stay, the more you feel you are being watched - a glowing yellow eye in your peripheral vision, the slither of a slimy tail across your leg. Dripping sounds are very persistent in these sections, and if a tribute were to succumb to madness - this would be the section for it.
The Seaweed Forest → Here is the home of the Grindylow and the Kappas. The seaweed is abnormally large and thick, and if you are lost in the 'forest', it will be very difficult to get out. Here floats the thickest groups of the 'stringy' seaweed commonly found in salt water on the beds of the sea floor. Combined with the creatures that hunger for your flesh... it could become a very grizzly death.
Mermaid's Cove → Amongst the brightly colored seaweed and anemones near the Reef, lies the entrance to the Mermaid's Cove. Guards do patrol the surrounding waters of this area, but take caution - they are not positioned in-sight twenty-four seven. As it's very easy to mistake the entrance to their lair as another cave, these creatures tend to stick low in the nearby aquatic plants and follow you in afterwards, blocking the entrance with their very poisonous, very long sword-like Lobalugs. Becoming trapped in this section is nearly certain death.
Above the Surface → The arena is built precisely to make it difficult to find the surface of the water. But if you do, there are thin bridges and a small amount of supplies. This area could only sustain one person, for a day, maybe two. Mist covers the air, and it is impossible to tell how big the arena truly is from even above the water. Erklings and Imps travel in hordes, and though neither have a taste for adults, they are particularly starved in this regard. The occasional rodent runs by (see: Murtlap) and is very simple to kill. Eating the anemone growing upon it's back has restorative powers - however, this is not a commonly known fact.
Please keep in mind that this water is salt water. Unless your tribute is a witch or wizard and can create an enchantment for themselves (or others around them), your tribute's body will begin to dry out, and dehydration will take effect rather quickly. Roleplay this accordingly to the section your tribute is currently occupying. If you need help in trying to find a solution for this problem (a reasonable one that, for instance, does not exceed your character's magical abilities or the magical abilities of their species), don't hesitate to message us and we can provide several solutions.
