41:Where I want to be right now
It’s 4:19 am in Paris, France right now. Today, the sun will rise at 7:08 am. I would stand along the Seine, watching the City of Lights wake up slowly, watching the people pass around me, watching life move around me. Because in this city it’s okay to slow down and watch, it’s okay to wander without a purpose. And I’ll do it with a fresh pain au chocolat in hand.
It’s 11:25 am in Taipei, Taiwan right now. This city wakes up early, too, but with garbage trucks that play music up and down the streets or a droning voice over an intercom. I would wander up and down the alleyway markets, sidestepping greasy spots from ghostly vendors and inhaling the scent of fresh-cooked street food, see the elderly hobble slowly along the sides of the streets, watch people haggling loudly and informally in a way that would frighten foreigners. I would blend into this city but feel like I can retain my identity.
It’s 10:30 pm in an undisclosed location in Texas right now. I stay up late because that is when my mind is most awake and alert. But tonight the future promise of you and the current loneliness of myself is making me sluggish and aching and longing. So — where I want to be, right now? In your arms. Laughing. Knowing you. And not having to wait for you any longer.
