         “Alright. Fair point, but counter question. Is smug really the correct word choice? Maybe I’m just confident? Maybe I really AM serious. You’ll never know if you keep hiding from me, now would you~?”

Oh he’s enjoying this a little bit too much.

Loke had to agree with Gray. Something about these Cavern’s felt off, but he couldn’t place his finger on it. Was it the smell of water mixed with dirt and old stone? The strange echoes down the distant corridors? Their job took them out on the other side, following the strings of lachrima lights, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that some thing (or one) was watching them. 

Perhaps he was just getting paranoid. 

          “Well, if it gets too creepy, you can always hold my hand.” He wriggled his fingers are Gray and teasingly lifted an eyebrow. “Or does that ruin the tough guy façade? I’m sure a lot of ladies would find it endearing~.”

All fun and games. Joking and teasing. Yet he moved his hand closer as it to offer it to Gray anyway. How would Gray respond to this recent joke of his? Oh he was eager to see the reaction!

          “I wont tell if you wont~” And he winked.

Of course he was joking. Maybe. Definitely. Right? The grin on his face said he wasn’t about to answer that, opting to let Lucy come to her own conclusions instead. Still, the claim had his eyes practically gleaming behind his glasses as he beamed. 

           “Best we stick close together then. By the way, I love where you’ve been keeping my key lately. A shame it’s only my key and not actually me spending time there...”

Rough battling all around made for one exhausted Rin-Magic user. He coughed lightly, smiling at some hidden joke he hadn’t made known yet, before tilting his head to look to Gray, grin lopsided. 

        “Already asking to come home with me, are you? My aren’t you bold-”

One step towards his companion and the Celestial Spirit turned Human stumbled over, one arm slumped over Gray’s shoulder as Loke grimaced in pain. That earlier punch to the gut really did him in. 

        “All right, note to self: no playful flirting when injured.”

He was tired. Energy mostly expended, but having just enough to stay in this realm. He could last awhile and knew it, even if his legs shook from their recent fight. He’d taken the brunt of most attacks, but his key-bearer -Lucy- was certainly not without damage. 

Why hadn’t she summoned him sooner? He bit back a curse, taking note of her leaning against him, light enough for his broader frame to keep her standing. He willed his own legs to keep standing and quickly grabbed her arm, Looping it over his shoulders to give her better purchase against him.

         “All right, milady!” He said, trying to keep the moment light despite them both being exhausted and the smell of smoke still wafted through the air everywhere. Just what sort of job had she agreed to? This had almost been too dangerous! 

          “I think it’s time we get you to the others. I’m sure Wendy will patch you up right quick, yes?”

And then he could take a long nap. Just as soon as I know she’s safe.
