Carmen gave Aldrich a glance before looking down at her lap. She had a small plush elephant held tightly in her hands. “It’s okay...I just wish you would have said something or done something about this sooner. It sure seems like it was a pretty big deal. The doctors seemed so worried” She sighed and looked at him again. She knew something more than what he was letting on was wrong but Aldrich was the type to hide it and she understood that. She wouldn’t push him, knowing how it feels to want to avoid letting on how much pain you’re in.
She shook her head and sighed. “i don’t think that will happen. With something as serious as this they will want to keep you overnight at least. I’m sure” Carmen sighed softly and tried to ignore the promise. She was sure he would go out of his way to keep it but until she knew he was alright with certainty, she was going to be scared. “I got you something from the gift shop.” She started, wanting to change this subject as quickly as possible “It’s an elephant...it reminds me of you because they care for their young so much and they are strong and smart but gentle. I know it’s silly but I thought it might help make you feel better at least” She finished by setting the small plush down next to him in the bed. “Something to keep you company as long as you need it.”
