Day #1 Berlin - We left the countryside and arrived in the city yesterday early afternoon. It was a great day touring the city with Suzi, Steffen and Emma. Unfortunately we just missed the pride parade, which looked like a really crazy and fun party!!! We toured multiple exhibition spaces for the ICCCIA conference, saw Suzi’s studio, saw the “woods” where our students will be staying - a very cool park with a petting zoo, Biergarten and train! I think they will love the area. We saw the River Spree, which was tranquil and beautiful. We even made a protest to open it back up for swimming! Day #16 - Our last day at the Atelierhaus Hilmsen Residency! We had such a good time here - making potato stuff, making new friends, and playing with the puppies. Today we spent a good portion of the day putting together a proposal for the Atlanta Beltline Project. I made some kartoffel (potato) stepping stones for Katherine. These will be cast in iron at the symposium which starts very soon. More artists arrived today and will be arriving tomorrow. Lance and Kurt helped Hans install this great chair sculpture while I made a gnocchi dinner for everyone, per Chase’s request. And Hans and Katherine got sheep! A wonderful last day here. Day #15 - Atelierhaus Hilmsen Residency - Today we took a trip to the Industrie Museum in Brandenburg to meet with the museum staff and ICCCIA conference team. We transported the “Du Bist Eine Kartoffel”performance project in a covered trailer that we rented from the gas station for 2 days for 55 euros (quite the deal)! We saw the iron performance space and it’s incredible - perfect for our performances and rich with industrial history. It is an exciting venue for our ICCCIA conference for sure (kudos to Suzi)! Afterwards we had a perfect lunch at the Biergarten with the team to further organize conference details (just before the rain). And we stopped for dessert at a great cafe on the way home. Tomorrow is our last day here in hilmsen before we travel to Berlin! It has been an excellent adventure and Katherine and Hans are amazing hosts! Day #14 - Atelierhaus Hilmsen Residency - Today we finished our Eisenwunderwelt collaborative sketch with @alex_habisreutinger We also prepped all of the details for the potato furnace that will be part of the ICCCIA performance night September 16. Tomorrow we will go to Brandenburg to meet up with Suzi and Andreas to talk about iron conference preparation and see the performance site at the Industrie Museum.
