Con pledge
I have an Idea for the 2015 Anime con and Comic-con season.
I know this is a long article but if you go to cons or are an artist or even know one please take the time to read this.
I'd like to Start a pledge that for every item I buy in the dealers room I will buy something in the artists ally and here's why.
I have read articles about a movement of artists who hate cosplayers at cons, mostly comic-cons. [Link to a story nerdist did] http://www.nerdist.com/2014/12/comic-book-artist-says-cosplayers-bring-nothing-of-value-to-conventions/
The main reason for this is that instead of people coming to the con and buying prints of characters they really love they instead interact with the living and breathing cosplayers. With the "real deal" [cosplayers] you can talk to them and maybe even make a great new cosplay friend.
so whats the problem? Well I've read many stories this week about artists who went to conventions and spent $200 or more to get the tables and print the art and over the course of the whole weekend sold maybe 7 pieces of art. They actually lost money. From what I have read you will be glad to know that this isnt common but it does happen and when it does happen a lot of the artists blame cosplayers for shifting the focus away the artists and onto the other patrons who paid just regular entrance but dressed like a fan favorite.
Here is what I think: both us cosplayers and the artists are basically doing the same thing, FAN ART! Artists make the fan art of your markers and paints and photoshop while cosplayers are making the exact same image out of fabric, foam and makeup.
I would hate it if these two groups started a feud so here is what I propose,
As a ccosplayer who knows the feelings some artsits have I pledge that for every item I buy in the dealers room I will buy something in the artists ally.
as well as being a sign of goodwill between fans This supports the wonderful artists I know two go to these amazing cons. I got cards from almost everyone at Ichiboncon this year and I follow most of their blogs now.
Please reblog this and share it around, even if we dont get the pledge viral lets at least raise awareness of whats happening so everyone can be awesome friends!
Just got back from Ichibon :)
Damn alois. I lost a bet and now I'm at ichibon con as a witch...
