Brandy’s debut album dropped in September of 1994 and I was living in a little, small town called Gatesville, Texas, population 15,000. There was only one of everything and the only place to buy music was the local Walmart. We didn’t have a lot of money at the time but I was finally collect enough money to buy the album by doing chores and some odd jobs for my neighbors. The day the album dropped my mother drove me to the Walmart and I immediate went to the music rack and guess what? The album wasn’t there. I panicked. A worker walked by. “Ma’am! I’m looking for an album that came out today and I don’t see it.” “If it’s not on the self, we don’t got it.” She said. I was immediately saddened and even though my mother was ready to go, I wouldn’t leave until I knew for sure they didn’t have it. So, I sat at the music rack for nearly an hour and right before I gave up I found the only copy on the rack! I was so excited I didn’t know how to control myself. For two weeks following that was the ONLY album I listened to… and to this day it’s one of five albums I can listen to without skipping a single song!
